Take a look at some of the 'tag lines' of the posters just on this thread to see who might be chanting Bernie Out. This level of vitriol is self defeating.
This whole article just shows how fickle football fans are......if things dont go their way, they are so quick to jump and shout bloody murder and down with the king! But when things change and owners may start doing things they agree with, then all is well with the world.....look at Newcastle and Ashley. I've even read some people go as far as to say they hate Flavio.......how you cant hate a man who you have never spoke to or met is beyond me; he may not be to your taste with his orange face and flamboyant style, but to hate the man just doesnt wash with me....afterall he saved QPR even if he did it in a manner that was questionable at times. Everyone bangs on about having the Mittals as owners, but why? Is this just the only alternative to Flavio and Bernie?...a take what you get scenario? How I see it, is that if the Mittals took over and didnt do things the way some QPR fans would like, we would have articles on here saying get the Mittals out.
the money men are all the same, i agree franckster how & will it be different, the only one who it will suit is warnock.
We do owe the goons credit for saving us and their initial enthusiasm and investment. What fans can't abide is a fickle "this bores me now so I'll get what I can while I can" attitude. We like the Mittals because they appear to genuinely care. The only hypocrisy is that we're now starting to get players (high profile ones) which we've been screaming for, yet we're wanting a takeover from the Mittals who would reduce ticket prices, ergo revenues and want prudent stability (which realistically wouldn't stretch to signing Bothroyds and Bullards). It would be long term v short term and we all love to get carried away by the here and now. I've been complaining for weeks but love it now things are happening positively. We're QPR, this is how we do things and none of us would swap it. COYRs
I donât think itâs got anything to do with being fickle, and I for one am certainly not going to start apologising for backing the Mittals over the Goons. As a fan of course I want to see us signing quality players, and hopefully doing well next season. Iâm not going to be churlish and say âoh yeah, well weâve signed Bothroyd, but itâs all still cr*pâ or âIâd rather see us go down next seasonâ. Thatâs not how I feel, and Iâm guessing is not how most fans feel. This is our club and so I want to see the best players at Loftus Road, and footballing success is always the top priority. However, I would rather have the Mittals running our club than the Goons any day. And thatâs not based upon some dewy-eyed hero worshiping of the Mittals, it is based purely on the track record of how both parties have treated the club during their time involved. We know for a fact that Warnock would not be at the club if it wasnât for Bhatia, Neil has said this himself many times. And I think that we know that we wouldnât have been promoted without Warnock. We also know that Flavio would still be highering and firing managers every other week, would still be trying to pick the team himself, and we would still be a laughing stock if Mittal hadnât come in and installed a new chairman and shuffled Flavio off the board. No decent manager would have touched us with a barge-pole before then. We know that the Mittals disagreed with the massive hike in ticket costs next season. We know that the QPR in the Community Trust is still largely funded by the Mittals. We know that Ecclestone considers being involved with us as a âhassleâ, and that he canât be bothered to go to watch us clinch promotion at Watford because itâs âtoo far from Londonâ. So yes, of course Iâm pleased to see us sign a player like Bothroyd. But to take that as hypocrisy or fickleness is unfair. I still think that we deserve better owners than we have now, ones who treat the club and the fans with greater respect. From the track record Iâd say that the Mittals fit that bill much more than Eccles and Blubottle. Rant over.
How are those of us who doubt the Goons and support a Mittal takeover fickle? Fickle are those who've been frustrated by the Goons actions and inactions over the past few months, that together threaten both the current success and future survival of the club at one level or another - but are immediately placated by a couple of free transfers... Sure Bothroyd is a major coup and I am as delighted as anyone with this move. Why shouldn't I be? I and those who think like me on these issues am / are as Rangers as anyone else on here. But the club needs significant investment and the owners have the resources to do so but choose not to. I for one don't believe that Ecclestone is absorbing the club's loses. It's debts are building up month in month out. The owners are there to underwrite them as directors loans sure enough - but as things stand that's simply leaving the club more and more vulnerable to owners who have no affection for the club or its culture. You couldn't even accuse Abramovich of that. The point has been made that the Mittals are equally reprehensible in business but until they show similar contempt for the club, I for one continue to support the positive input and successes they have consistently delivered over the past couple of years. If in the fullness of time that view proves to have been naive, so be it but I fail to see how it can be seen as fickle. Very odd imo.
It seems people are taking it personally as if I aimed it directly at them and thats not the case......football fans in general are fickle.....fickle meaning quick to change ones opinion or allegiance......and thats true. Last season I didnt see one article on bbc 606 moaning about Flavio or Bernie, yet as soon as the season ended and we hadnt spent over £100 Million every man and his dog was shouting get the "goons" out. Yes the season ticket price hike wasnt ideal, but having an 18,000 seater stadium I can see how the club is trying to finance our future in one of the most expensive leagues in the world. But now that players like Naughton, Bothroyd, DJ etc are starting to be mentioned the mood changes somewhat and "get the goons out" will become less and less and if next season we do well.....you wont hear it at all, just as we didnt last season. There are things Bernie and Flavio do that I dont agree with, but they have got us into the Premiership for the first time in 16 years and I for one am grateful and wont be shouting for their heads. They have never done ANYTHING to jeopordise our clubs future.........im not pro Bernie or Flavio, just think some of the shouts have been unjustified.
Franckster â Iâm afraid thatâs not quite right. In fact if you look back to the season before last you can see that plenty of us were complaining about the behaviour of the board back on the old 606, and in particular the behaviour of the then chairman Briatore. His failure to back our managers and his constant meddling with team selection made our club a complete laughing stock. The only reason that changed was because he was sidelined off the board when the Mittals came inâ¦. Itâs all about track record mate, thatâs what Brixton, myself and others take into account. Our unhappiness with the board is not something new, is hasnât just popped up over the last couple of months because we didnât get a victory parade or because we didnât sign Tevez. Itâs about their long track record of mismanaging the club and treating the fans with disrespect thatâs the problem.
yeah I agree with what you are saying.............but some of the hatred is a bit strong. The club has moved forward has it not? yes it has been rocky and some of Flavio's decisions have been crazy with managers etc, but people do forget the things they have done for the club, that was my point. I'd totally welcome a Mittal takeover obviously, but just think its a bit unfair to "hate" Flavio when those two litterally did save our club.
I think hatred is a bit of a strong word. I certainly don't hate either Bernie or Flav, but I can't say I'm too impressed with the way they've run things thus far. The signing of one decent player (Bothroyd) doesn't change my attitude towards them, they'll have to do a lot more than that to convince me they're the right ones to be steering the ship. As for anyone on here taking any comments personally, then that's probably because QPR is personal to us, we all look on it as "our" club.
If I'm fickle for being contented that the board are now investing in some quality to hopefully keep us up, where as I was unhappy beforehand then I dont mind being calledf fickle at all
Fair enough Franckster. I think we can both agree that we hope that the signing of Bothroyd marks a new chapter for the club, and that come the Bolton game we'll have a team that can compete and that we can get behind. I certainly hope so. I'm not into being negative for the sake of it. If I start sounding like that feel free to call me A Boy In The Bush! Although I've not been too impressed with the Goons so far, I don't hate anyone. COURs!
Totally agree mate......ABITB wasnt even a QPR fan anyway.....win or lose he was in it for the WUMing. Hopefully Bothroyd as you say is the first of a number of good signings along with DJ and Naughton. I have no doubt that we will be owned by new owners come this time next year anyway and I hope we can celebrate another year in the top flight.
Well said Friendly and HE. Franckster: where did you get this 'hatred' thing from? I can't remember seeing that expressed anywhere except perhaps in jokes about having them bumped off. You do know don't you that the anti-Goon thing is not a figment of the imagination of certain not606 posters... that the OSC, LSA, QPR1ST and indeed most if not all the bloggers have expressed similar concerns? Fickle? Unjustified? I think not. Bakes: understood where you were coming from in the long 'dry' weeks and can't blame you for feeling a bit of relief now (I think we all do) but as I said before, I cannot regard a couple of frees as significant investment from wealthy owners clearly on the take. Eamon: Who could possibly emulate you?!
Just general posts from QPR forums around and about. (your signature says a lot) I dont doubt its a figment...whether you think its justified, thats your opinion and I was giving mine......the very fact you call them goons speaks volumes. I understand why some people arent happy with some of their decisions and I have my own annoyances, ticket prices etc But I stand by the fact that they saved our club and put us where we are today and without them, we would probably be in League 2 and admin......a lot of people are far to quick to forget that. Last season was the BEST season I have ever witnessed at QPR and if it wasnt for them, none of you would have witnessed that...fact.
Franckster: Coming out now isn't it? My signature says where I stand, simple as. We call them 'Goons' after humerous references to Eccles and Bluebottle in a thread just after Bhatia's resignation. Tango and No Cash serves the same purpose. Sure their arrival caused optimism and new underwriters for debts the club itself is still lumbered with. But did they do it for the good of Rangers as well as themselves? No sign of that, and last year (2009/10) they almost mismanaged us back down again. Remarkable given their power and resource. To suggest the upsurge in our fortunes, starting just before Warnock's arrival, was in any way attributable to the Goons is simply not the case. The facts show that the Mittal boys were responsible for putting us back on course. If anything, the Goons weren't intertested until promotion looked fairly imminent - and then they came back and - for want of endless detail - screwed things up again. Even Eamon made clear he wanted the Goons gone, his concerns were more about whether Mittal was likely to prove any better. That's where he shuts me up: whilst I think they'd be better, I certainly don't know it. Have to wait and see.
What's coming out now? I'm giving my opinion thats all, as are you. Your right that Flavio cant run a football club, that been proven and thus why when Saksena took over as chairman, the sacking of managers etc stopped and Warnock was aloud to be successful. Believe it or not, I actually do want the sale to go through as I dont feel Bernie and Flavio will take us on to the next level......I agree with Eamon in that the Mittals havent actually done anything to prove they will be any better, allthough Amit is a lot more in tune with the fans. My point overall was that they did save the club and that does deserve some recognition.
Thank you Kaspers and Brix for speaking good sense as usual, and also to Matt. You dealt with the response to Frankster's original post so comprehensively, I don't have anything else to say! Oh, except that if the Goons do right by the club, the manager and the team (and that doesn't necessarily mean pouring skip-loads of money in, just managing the club as well as the Mittals did) then I will feel a lot better about them. That doesn't make me fickle...
