With the news today that Liverpool have agreed a fee for Stewart Downing from Aston Villa believed to be in the region of £20 million, firstly i want to get the fans views on this long protrcted media saga and if its good business for the club, but also secondly with the fans obvious choice being Juan Mata have you now given up hope of signing this exceptional talent this summer and of the two players who would you personally prefer? With a midfield 4 of Downing Adam Lucas Henderson, does this rank as one of your better midfields in the last ten years? Obvious exemptions are aqua and merirels as their futures are in doubt, and Gerrard has been ommited from the list due to his niggly injuries over the last 2 years and at 31 can not be considered a long term option for the club. In Other News: Guy separates from wife, cuts her out of his will. He dies, she sues and blames brain tumor for turning him into a tranny.
I would prefer mata, however im not sure on whether he would provide us with the natural width we need as he often cuts inside. Downing will fit into the team straight away being english and playing in EPL all his life. May i add that downing completed the most crosses of anyone this season at 138, im sure Carroll would enjoy his service immensly

I really can't see Downing or Adam helping you guys break back into the top 4 or Carrol for that matter, atleast with your Henderson signing you can see the potential. 20 mil for Stuart Downing is nonsense.

Style, a question, what won Man Utd the title last season? Was it a team full of superstars or a large squad of largely the same standard players? What does Downing, Adam, Henderson bring to our team? Options. Look at our bench and back-up players last season, the kids did brilliantly last season stepping up but its not the solution. Unfortunately (or fortunately however you look at it) fans dont decided on transfers, no-one knows if Mata is available and if he is, at what price, no-one knows where Mata wants to go and what his demands will be, i would imagine if Mata was (or still is) in the plans of LFC those involved would find out and act accordingly

If you can't see the potential in Carroll there is something wrong there. Adam is a quality player he has proven himself in the prem and against you lot. I will say that Adam needs to improve his fitness and be able to play 90 mins not 60 or 70 mins.
I suppose it's only natural to warm to the idea of Downing (apparently at Melwood now with Stevie - Kenny flying back tomorrow) now he's one of ours. However Mata's potential is enormous. I realy did think the surprise friendly with Valencia signalled his potential signing, but maybe not. I'll settle for Downing.
luvgonzo not to be argumentative, just debate, adam did do well last season but so did stephen ireland at city and then he disappeared. Carroll the jury is still out on him this season for all the players will be a big ask, liverpool have spent alot and their will be a high level of expectation.
