Definitely would have him. One of the most underrated players in premier league history imo.

 

With Man Utd signing two midfielders and a CB, you wonder if Carrick will be content with a place on the subs bench.

 

Definitely take him 100%. Surely wouldn't be too much as is quite old. Doesn't need pace either. Colback could learn a fair bit from him.

He signed a one year extension in March and we played incredibly well when he was in the team last season, so I can see him being one of the first names on the team sheet when the season begins, help the new players bed in whilst keeping an experienced, level head in the side to keep things steady.

 

As much as I'd love to see us getting hold of him, I can't see it. First up I can't see your lot selling him. It's a different level up at the top and you don't worry about how many spare players you have in reserve as much as a team that needs to budget more carefully. Like you said, he was great last season and would be a huge benefit to the new boys bedding in. Secondly, even if he did leave I can see a team that can offer European football coming in for him - not necessarily from England. His style would fit well into a continental team. The hometown club angle will have some pull, but not enough to outweigh the chance of more success. Very few players choose playing for their own team over the possibility of success. Not even Shearer did that as we had a chance of winning trophies back then - even though we never did.

All that said, I think he'd be a great addition to the team and worth pursuing anyway if there was even the remotest possibility.

 

To tell you the truth, he's always been one of my favourite players and he's been a great loyal servant to us, if he wanted to leave and play a season for his home town club I wouldn't begrudge him that opportunity. I hope he stays though, for selfish reasons. Much like Darren Fletcher in a way, if he's not getting games and he's still got something to offer, we couldn't stand in his way after all they've given us over the years, the difference is, a fit and firing Michael Carrick is the first midfielder on my team sheet.

 

Its a nice thought but Man U can afford to have that many midfielders. I think he will stay where he is and fancy himself to get a game too.
