Marseille's Michy Batshauyi has been linked with us this morning in a £9m deal. Ironically, I signed him on a FM game for Spurs and he done bloody brilliantly, I could have been unknowingly foreshadowing of what was to come. Had a great goal record back in his native Belgium for Standard Liege (40 in 90 I think I read) and last season he got 9 in 23 according to Wiki, decent return for a young striker. Also, L'Equipe are claiming Hugo's injury may only keep him out for two weeks.
Two weeks?? For a broken wrist?? No chance! Not unless there's been some miraculous advancement in medical science. Or the wrist is not actually broken?
I think Lloris's wrist is fractured, which can sometimes be trickier really. Particularly with a GK its not an injury to rush back from.
Friedel came out on twitter and immediately stated that the broken bone wouldn't be used as a transfer strategy. Now I may be reading too much into it, but for an official representative of the club to state that and for him then to move, would be a severe blow to Friedel and the club's integrity. That said, maybe the club don't care about integrity. I hope they do.
It said he done it over the holidays don't forget, so maybe it's been in the process of healing for a while already but the club has only just decided to announce the situation as he won't likely feature in pre-season games and thus it puts to rest any fan confusion as to why he's not playing.
That's a possibility. From personal experience of a fractured wrist - in my case both radius and ulna - 4/5 weeks in plaster and then at least a couple of weeks rehab/physio.
We might want to get a list of all the Belgians playing top level football, since we’re sure to be linked with them sooner or later. They may very well demand a move, though the fact that Kane says he wants to stay here makes it somewhat less likely in his case. But the financial consequences of letting them move to a PL club for Levy and ENIC are dire. The tapping up pressure is intense despite holding the line for seven years. Let one go, and the moment we have a player with a decent season, they’re liable to be taking points away from us next season. What’s the point of investing in an academy if you develop players for your rivals? How are you going to sell out a 61,000 seat stadium to see, in effect, Man U’s youth team? Who is going to want to buy Spurs at a huge markup (which has always been ENIC’s goal) if they are a PL feeder club? Losing our big players abroad at a certain, later point, which is unavoidable, is certainly bad. But not selling stars to PL clubs puts us in a higher bracket than most of the other PL teams, which in turn makes the club more valuable. There may be circumstances which make it unavoidable. But doing so could cost ENIC hundreds of millions down the road, so they’re likely to keep doing everything possible to prevent it.
Firmino's a tricky player that plays as a number 10. If you look at the strikers and number 10s currently at the club they have Balotelli, Sturridge,Ings, Origi, Ings, Lallana, Firmino, Coutinho, Markovic, Borini and Lambert. I don't know how many of them Rodgers is planning on featuring regularly next season but some of them will inevitably end up getting shoehorned into other roles. Liverpoool are in for a very tough next season if Rodgers continues to sign all the attacking players he can get his hands on whilst ignoring defensive players altogether. It's just bizarre.
If I were to take a guess, I'd say Pool's best option would be: Sturridge, Coutinho, Firmino, Ings Henderson, Milner While Sturridge is out, stick Ings up top and bring in Lallana.
It's the Kevin Keegan approach to management: if your defence is shaky, the best solution is to sign another striker.
Lloris might have...but levy refused to deal with chelsea a few years back Kane would look incredibly stupid and dishonest if he demanded a move to united after saying he did not want to leave spurs just 3 weeks ago. What happens next year is a different issue but this year he is staying put imo
The interesting point about our three signings is that they’re very hard to criticize (not that I haven’t given it my best!). The big problem was defending. What better player could be signed than the generally admired former CB partner of our best CB? Especially when the price looks very reasonable. Getting the PL’s leading crosser in to a team that crossed too little and has excellent aerial threats is hard to argue with, as is getting a young, left-sided CB when we lacked one. In any case, they were both so inexpensive they have only a very small downside risk.
From what I can tell, it's the usual sound and fury with Batshuayi, but at nine million, he'd be another hard-to-question buy. A 21 year old who had 9 goals in only 6 starts and 26 appearances and provides pace looks like a perfect fit, especially given he's a Belgian to boot. He looks like an excellent choice to sub in games we're losing, and should get plenty of action in Cup games. Trying him in various positions with Kane in the lineup might work as well. In fact, I don't know why they would only want 9 million for him, as he seems worth considerably more.
