must say I am disappointed, but unfortunately it is the nature of the beast regarding excessive supermarkets Tesco have 17 outlets, Sainsbury 13 morrisons 4 asda 6 morrisons and asda
Said on tv last night that the site was worth thirty milion. Righto Higgs sell it for less redraw plans it is hard to believe the ONLY way the Gas can move is if ONLY Sainsburys buy the Memorial ground.
You say that as if Sainsbury's was the only development happening, conveniently leaving out the actual main bit. Not surprised mind. A brand new stadium for the second biggest sporting club in the city, at a prime location in conjunction with one of the biggest universities in the country, and you're telling me it isn't beneficial for Bristol? I know we're all City fans but even the most blind, deluded City fan (except it seems yourself) can see that for the neutral Bristolian this was a very good opportunity for the area as a whole.
Basically this. I know it's suicide saying this on a City forum, but I really am torn between wanting to laugh at the those Gas morons who laughed at us (not all of them I know) when they were so convinced they were getting their new ground, and being annoyed that they lost because at the moment, despite our differences, when it comes to building our stadia it really is us (the football clubs) against them, and has been for so long now.
I didn't say you we're all against us, I remember a VERY select few, who were mainly members who weren't very active who wanted us to succeed. You and all you regulars took the piss out of it constantly and really stuck the knife in when we didn't get it. Still to this day gasheads take the piss, it's nice to see it blow up in your lots face. It's not a sad day for Bristol, when AV didn't get built, that was a sad day but a newly promoted conference club who get 6000 people a game not getting there 20k+ seater stadium wont cause Bristol any upset. Only the small minority who go down to the mem. Nothing wrong with the ground you currently have, for your current position in the football ladder.
Exactly the same could have been said for us last season and the season before. Of course they need a new ground ffs.
Walking around the likes of Westbury Park I doubt many people will care. Bristol Rovers have a funding gap and the loss of a Sainsburys will not be detrimneal to that area. Bristol Rovers can still fill that funding gap with an alternative. The Memorial site is clearly valuable, and attractive. An alternative to yet another supermarket, or Sainsburys sitting on a land asset for decades [ it happens] could be of fare more benefit to the local community. The benefits of the University tie in are obvious, but they are also linked to a tie with Sainsburys where the socal benefits are less obvious, or a case of "Sainsburys were paying full whack **** the locals!" .
The news about Bristol Rovers losing their case against Sainsbury's was national news last night. You may be forgiven for being surprised, because Bristol Rovers are a small football club, and supermarkets are building all the time, so why would it be national news? The reason it's national news is the same reason why people are calling the failure to build a significant public building "The Bristol Effect". The city has become a laughing stock over the past five years for its inability to build pretty much anything of note. UWE have failed to build a swimming pool for decades, Bristol City have failed in their bid to move stadiums (despite actually owning the land they want to build on), Bristol Rovers have failed to build a new stadium (despite signing a contract to build a new stadium), the Bristol Arena has gone quiet (and most people don't see it actually happening), the MetroBus sounds like it won't happen, some of the business development between Temple Meads and Broadmead has been on hold for the better part of a decade, etc. Bristol is far behind other cities in terms of facilities, and it's suffering as a result. **** football rivalries. The news that Rovers won't get a new stadium sucks. I've said from the start that regardless of who you support, both teams need better facilities than what we currently have. This city is a ****ing joke, and unless we buck our ideas up we'll see more businesses leaving, and Bristol be nothing more than a backwater dump. Frankly, I wanted both sides to move outside of Bristol to prove a point. Rovers were onto something by moving to Frenchay, but I wish City would've ditched Ashton Vale and bought the Cadbury's land in Keynsham to build on.
reasonable idea but getting to it would not have been that clever ! AG is bad enough from some directions
Keynsham is gonna need that by-pass sooner rather than later.. 750 new homes being built and you can't get off hicks gate in the morning now!
Cant get through it on an evening neither !!! Never mind a new Rovers ground lets see some investment in the roads leading to south Bristol !
I note on their site they are talking about fans making a contribution to purchase their club for the fans. Now with our bigger fan base we probably wont have to be put in so much each to purchase it for ourselves ..................
