In 85 all you needed was a car driving licence.

    Nah, just some random.

It may look like fun but it's really not. Those buggers had a 4 wheel steering system which was useful in tight corners but not so much fun when driving on roads.

One of my mates crashed one and the only reason he survived was because he never put on the seat belt and was thrown clear. As I said, Death Traps.

I must confess, I too am (was) certified to drive fork lifts.

In ma yoof I worked in an aluminium works. I was employed to spectrographically analyse samples from the furnaces to ensure we were making the desired aluminium type. But, as it was a small company, I also had to work on the baling of the aluminium ingots when the furnaces were tapped; including fork lift driving.

I took this experience into British Steel's Clydesdale Tube Works where again part of my duty was fork lift driving. Including big **** off fork lifts capable of lifting several 40-60 foot steel tubes at a time. (I never actually drove those when loaded, I used to take a wee drive in them to go see pals in other parts of the steel works )

I am also, or was, a certified overhead crane driver. Firstly, in the Steel Works scrap bay using a big **** of magnet to collect scrap and feed 100 tonne buckets which were then transferred to the furnaces for smelting. Secondly, in the Steel Works mills where finished tubes had to be moved around and loaded onto lorries via slings (very tricky).

I have lived a varied and uninteresting life.
