http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33270636 So we have signed Stoke Keeper Asmir Begovic for an undisclosed fee, thought to be around the £8m region. (who in the **** makes those figures up btw?). Anyway, a great signing, really rate the guy, and would probably put him in the PL top 5. Infact not many keepers better than him in the PL when you look past De Gea, Courtois and Cech. Very good that we once again have great backup for Courtois should he be injured. I was unsure this would go through as I thought Begovic was too good to play a backup role, but I guess he will likely double his Stoke wages with us, and have to do half the work, so maybe its a no brainer. Welcome to the club Asmir! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asmir_Begović
Good signing for you, but complete lack of sense from him. He he needs to have a word with Delph... obviously feels he needs a 3 year career break on the bench before asking for a move because he's not playing enough.
Yeah when I first heard the rumours I thought "Nah, he is too good to be a No.2!" He will get games, in the Cups, and if Courtois gets injured, but like I said in the OP, he will have likely doubled his wages from his Stoke Contract and will have to do a fraction of the work. If you are offered a new job, with double the salary, and half the workload, its a no brainer really. Some players need to play every week, some don't. Guess he doesn't.
I don't think he wants to sit on the bench but at the same time he'll win nothing with Stoke and never play C.L football. With us he'll get the chance to do both. Maybe he backs his own ability to force his way into the team or realises he'll still get a fair few games given how many comps we'll be in etc. Either way, good deal for us and leaves us with the best goal keeping set up in the league (especially once De Gea leaves )
I suppose there is that, hadn't even considered that. Maybe he is just super confident he can compete with Courtois and will try to oust him. Either way, it looks like Begovic has gone in to this deal with his eyes open, so its a win for CFC
Exactly. About as good a replacement for Cech we could have hoped for. Just a shame he went to Arsenal!
He could go to United when they sell de gea. Could have gone to arsenal before cech if his agent had whored him out... He's not English so could go to many teams abroad to play cl football. He'll play as much cl football at Chelsea as he did at Stoke, apart from maybe the 6th group game if you're already through.
You understimate the pull of playing for the Champions, London and Mourinho. Playing for the best team, manager in the best city is a big pull... plus ££££
I try to avoid it as much as I can but once or twice a month I have to for work. dont like being so northerly, quicker I can get back down proper South and see the sea the better
Rubbish, had a little dip at the weekend, was lovely temperature. Was probably as clean as the Thames... But still nice temperature.
I probably would have chosen United, purely because losing De Gea and gaining Cech would not have improved them at all. Its pretty much a like for like swap, however, replace Chesney Battersby with Cech at Arsenal improves Arsenal immensely. So I would have gone United....but a bit late now
