I think the beeb meant he is the first person from Ireland and the home nations to win a UFC title. Don't think they were saying he was from Britain It's just terrible English, R comes before U anyways. Barely literate at the beeb so they are When yer man Mendez was pounding McGregor, McGregor just kept saying "that all you got" all through the fight.
Yeah but the point Hash is making is that its irrelevant. Might as well say he's the first champion from Poland & Republic of Ireland. The countries aren't related to each other whatsoever, and the BBC are just trying to bring the UK into something which has no relation to them to try an attach themselves to the success.
i still find it a bit weird when they include NI in uk things, republic of Ireland is completely separate to the uk. oh and the beebs have always been cocks, nothing will change there, why the **** i have to pay the ****s for a tv license no idea, ****s!!.
But Northern Ireland is legally / politically a province and part of the UK not part of the Republic so of course it is included in coverage by the BBC... it's status is obviously massively contentious but as for now it's to be expected that it gets reported on by the national broadcaster of the country it currently is part of This is just ****ing ridiculous though, stretching it is not even the term 'the first champion from the UK and Republic of Ireland', yeah that's a real legitimate country that loads of peeps are happily a part of isn't it?! It's so desperate it's untrue, he's a ****ing pure bred Dub this guy. Article's probably been written by some middle class intern with no ****ing notion of nationality, ethnicity, government and world politics though
Why is there a picture of the fight scene from Snatch? It's a great film but I can understand any criticism in the OP about Brad Pitt's irish accent
Too right this is disgraceful reporting, champion of what exactly? INTERIM FEATHERWEIGHT WTF is that? never mind where he is from, can you imagine a street fight after the pubs kick out ANYWHERE in the whole island and somebody saying " i cant fight you, you're too heavy as I am only an interim featherweight"? Artificial nonsense in all the combat sports.
please log in to view this image For those that think ufc is fake. Canadian Rory MacDonald suffered a broken nose and broken foot in what people are calling the fight of the year. "MacDonald didn't know what year it was when he came round." - UFC President Dana White.
It's interim because the Brazilian "world champion" shat his pants and pulled out with 2 weeks to the fight. And instead of strip him of his title the ufc had this interim **** instead.
Must admit I misunderstood that bit, just assumed it was yet another shyte weight division. PS In no way do I intend to disrespect any UFC fighters, they do it properly and could all kick my arse big time no matter what weight they are.
I notice the beeb made no mention of the united kingdom and republic of ireland's conor mcgregors entrance song sung live by scotland, wales, malta and ireland singer sinead o connor. As down the glen one Easter morn to a city fair rode I There Armed lines of marching men in squadrons passed me by No pipe did hum, no battle drum did sound its loud tattoo But the Angelus Bell o'er the Liffey's swell rang out in the foggy dew Right proudly high over Dublin Town they hung out the flag of war 'Twas better to die 'neath an Irish sky than at Suvla or Sud-El-Bar And from the plains of Royal Meath strong men came hurrying through While Britannia's Huns, with their long range guns sailed in through the foggy dew Oh the night fell black, and the rifles' crack made perfidious Albion reel In the leaden rain, seven tongues of flame did shine o'er the lines of steel By each shining blade a prayer was said, that to Ireland her sons be true But when morning broke, still the war flag shook out its folds in the foggy dew 'Twas England bade our wild geese go, that "small nations might be free"; Their lonely graves are by Suvla's waves or the fringe of the great North Sea. Oh, had they died by Pearse's side or fought with Cathal Brugha* Their graves we'd keep where the Fenians sleep, 'neath the shroud of the foggy dew. Oh the bravest fell, and the Requiem bell rang mournfully and clear For those who died that Eastertide in the spring time of the year While the world did gaze, with deep amaze, at those fearless men, but few, Who bore the fight that freedom's light might shine through the foggy dew As back through the glen I rode again and my heart with grief was sore For I parted then with valiant men whom I never shall see more But to and fro in my dreams I go and I kneel and pray for you, For slavery fled, O glorious dead, when you fell in the foggy dew.
Which is weird because they are a media corporation - what do they stand to gain by making this link? Even factoring in they are the gov's mouthpiece - it is still a bit odd. I reckon just bad journalism and many bunked off geography classes.
