QPR team in1976/7 I think when they ran Liverpool close for the league. Five England internationals in there, including Dave Thomas Stan Bowlesand my fav goalie Phil Parkes.
Holland team in 1974 Jonny Rep and Cruyff.
Peru in 1978 Cubillas was amazing.

I also liked the West Ham team in 1986 I think with Tony Cottee and Frank McAvennie, with Alan Devonshire pulling the strings in Midfield.

Favourite players of mine have tended to be Midfielders, Martin Peters, Alan Hudson and Rui Costa to name a few.

And the fact that the season that the 49th game came in, they didn't beat us. In fact if Wenger hadn't got the ref to play 7 minutes extra at Highbury, we would have beaten them before United did. Rory Delap with two goals.

Can't really argue with that one. (I take it Tiss is on the bench!?)

I was going to say that. Bring him on for when it goes to pens, against the all-time best Greek eleven.

Just because FLT and yourself may disagree with the outcome, surely does not mean that we cannot have such a vote :)? We may need it to take the strain off the preseason. I think that you should do it Latviandream :)!

Always been a huge Juventus fan, Nedved is my favourite player of all time and throughout the years they've always had some of my favourite players in their ranks, Buffon, Thuram, Vieira, Ibrahimovic, Del Piero. While my brother was holidaying in Venice he bought me this season's home shirt with Tevez on the back- beautiful bit of kit. Absolutely love Pogba and I will be sad to see him leave.

Have you ever been to see them play? A few years ago I went to see Juve play at Roma. They won 4-1 and it was a cracking game. Nedved played too.

Regrettably I haven't. I guess you could argue I'm one of those "fans" that supports a team but never goes to see them play lol, but I get to 4-5 Saints games a season from Belfast and that costs me more than enough! I have been to Turin en route to a snowboard holiday and I saw the delle Alpi. It's something I will do in time, they've always been my second team. Nedved was the master, all the money Juve made selling Zidane to Madrid they spent on Pavel Nedved. He goes under the radar sometimes when people talk about all time greats.

He was a good player. I hope you get a chance to see them one day. I only managed it because a few years back the wife and my mate's wife decided we were doing a weekend sight seeing in Rome... Would you believe the only dates my mate and I could make it was when Roma were home to Juve :)

I just asked the wife whe it was and she couldn't remember. Being a bloke I suddenly realised how I could work out when it was... I suddenly started getting lots of texts as Saints went from 3-0 up at home to Leeds and lost 3-4!!! Redcrapp was in charge.

Agreed. The best game of football I believe ever saw at the Dell was against QPR that season. Dave Sexton was a manager ahead of his time.

I loved the St Etienne team that undeservedly lost the 1976 (?) European Cup Final to Bayern Munich. Hopefully i haven't got my era's mixed up but i remember Dominic Rocheteau.

Too many great players to list through the years...

That period of my life ( I was10 in 76) was probably the most influential and my favourite times.
Holland in 74 ,Newcastle losing 3-0 in the cup final,Denis Tueart league cup goal, through those European finals (always chose the losers) and on to World Cup of 78, still my best tournament.

Maybe because of the age I was at the time, but it still seems like yesterday but the 90's went by relatively unnoticed apart from the obvious local stars!
Only my nipper getting to the right age has brought back the 12 year old me and reignited the passion.
Favourite teams/ players aren't the same now. The skills are there but the mercenary world means the passion is not always there and thus difficult to "Connect" with today's great players or teams. With the major exception of Messi...

Yeah football seems to have changed a fair bit in the last 20 years or so. Maybe some of the older posters can enlighten me as I only really got into football from the mid/late 90s, but in the 60s/70s/80s surely it must have been the same that the "big" clubs could still sign the better players from the smaller clubs? I would have thought that the successful clubs had and have the most money so can off more in wages etc so will always get the best players

The best teams used to get the best players, but with the Bosman ruling, the best players could now pick the best teams..subtle difference but changes things

Generally yes, but I will never forget the day we signed Kevin Keegan. It was the first item on national news and on the front page of every paper in the morning. He was European footballer of the year at the time. It wouldn't happen now.

It wouldn't happen now. I think you're right mate. He is far too old.
