Delph is staying at Villa rather than going to Man City. Sensible decision.

It'll be interesting if Villa signed Gueye as their anticipated replacement for Delph (it is possible that due to the rumoured interested in Gueye from other clubs, ourselves included, that Villa didn't want to wait until after Delph was sold to make a move for him). If so, well they now find themselves with both of them. Not exactly ideal for a club who I presume do not have shed loads to spend, but have numerous positions which they need to strengthen.

A similar thing could yet happen with us, if we go ahead and sign Clasie but also (somehow!) find ourselves keeping hold of Morgan. Although given our superior financial resources (to Villa), and the additional EL group (and KO) games which we may have, I wouldn't see this as a problem. I'm not going to cry at having Clasie AND Morgan as part of our squad, even if the board wouldn't have intended it to be like that! I'd like to think that we would still have the financial resources to replace Toby, at the very least.

Cherries (SN) after Michail Antonio? £7.5m seems a lot.

I can't see them spending the best part of £15m on Antonio and Gradel.

It makes a lot of sense Bmouth being interested in both of them. I often think it's wise for a 'smaller' club coming up from the Championship to sign up some quality Championship players, so that if they come straight back down - when all the odds are that they will - they at least come down with a much stronger Championship squad than they went up with. But you don't spend £13m - £15m on just two players to fit that criteria.

I still believe we are after two cm's.

I agree. Tough I'm not sure whether we're looking for a defensive or attacking midfielder because I can make a case for both those positions. When Morgan leaves, we are left with Vic and Reed as proper defensive midfielders, so when Vic gets injured or suspended, we will be too lightweight in the midfield and we could do with another 'beast'. And we were looking at Imbula and Krychowiak which would suggest that that's just the kind a player we're looking at. Then again, a central attacking midfielder would come in handy because we don't have those. We have a lot of attacking oriented players, but none really suited to play in the hole. We can make do with Davis and JWP like we did last season, but while not bad, it's also not an ideal solution.

Stekelenbutg/Gazza/Davis

Soares/Martina - Fonte/Gardos - XY/Yoshida - Bertrand/Targett

Clasie/Davis - Wanyama/Reed/XY

Mane/Tadić - JWP/Gaston/XY - Rodriguez/Juanmi

Pelle/Long/Gallagher

(And then there are youngsters Stephens, Turnbull, McCarthy, Gape, Hesketh, Isgrove, Mcqueen...)

So if you put it like this, it's evident that we need a central defender, and possibly a strong central midfielder in the Wanyama mould (as we have no one like that besides Vic) and possibly a central attacking midfielder, because JWP/Davis/Gaston are not ideal solutions. Other positions are pretty much covered.

If by some miracle we ended up on Sept 2nd with Morgan, Clasie and Vic, I'd be reaching for the tissues too; I wouldn't be crying either

Why not?.......simply because if/when he would be made available for transfer bigger/better teams would come in for him.
Wages?......Saints wouldn't pay what he would want.
Trophies?......Wouldn't he want to go to a team that would be better placed to win something.
Finally Saints don't make those sort of high profile signings. Out of our league imo.

Erh, what?

He turned down City as he said he knew he wouldn't get a enough game time. He is already available for transfer as he has a £8m buy out fee.

On the grounds he's just declared he is looking forward to being Villa captain this season, I think it'd be fairly fruitless.
He's a footy player... Lallana was saying basically the same. I'm not saying 100% he would come. I am saying for £8m he is worth a bid at least.
