According to the Mirror, who have slipped this little tidbit into a story about the possible Mitrovic signing:

'...they are pushing ahead with a move for German defender Antonio Rudiger. They are hopeful the 22-year-old Stuttgart star will choose them over Wolfsburg.'

They also state that Mitrovic is pretty much a done deal and that his family have now flown into Newcastle.

    Things are looking interesting.

Good news, but Rudiger ain't gonna happen with Chelsea and Atletico Madrid sniffing round him.

Any two from Rudiger, Veltman, N'Koulou and Matip will do.

I'd love to see a left back and another striker too.

We will need to do a small amount of trimming of excess if we do the business purported. However if you look at what we have sitting there, Marveaux, Vuckic, Riviere, Sammy, Obertan, Willo, Gouffran, Haidara and Colo or Saylor could all be comfortably trimmed without any danger to our needs.

    Krul, Darlow, Woodman

Janmaat, Matip, Rudiger, Colo, Lascelles, Left Back, Dummett

Wijnaldum, Tiote, Sissoko, Aarons, Anita, Cabella, SDJ, Colback, Abeid, Kemen, Roberts

    Perez, Mitrovic, Austin, Cisse

I'd probably want at least one more wide player. Perhaps someone like Thauvin (or similar) and Demerai Gray. Depends how ready/good Roberts is as to whether we need someone like Gray.

I think that squad would have a good chance of securing a top 10 finish.

I'd rather we sign Mitrovic. His brother doesn't look like much of an athlete.:emoticon-0105-wink:

Apparently, his dad is blocking the deal. Holding out for Porto. According to those that spoke with Milan Mitrovic [the brother], Mitrovic wants to join us.

    I really hope so!

As for Porto - are we after all their targets as well! Haha! See they have just signed Casillas!

Porto may have some side next season. I am laughing at some of our fans on other forums who reckon that we are a bigger club than Porto. Really?

We're in a biggler league for sure but a bigger club?! I don't get some of our fans - they're either MrT or completely deluded!

Porto are a massive club. Portuguese Champions multiple times, Champions League and UEFA Cup winners. Their old Das Antas stadium also held 75,000 and was regularly full. We are richer and play in a bigger league. A bigger club though? Not a chance.

Mitrovic has been reported a Shearer fan. This is normal as Shearer was obviously a world renowned and respected striker. One of the best around. However it does get trotted it out everytime we sign a striker <laugh>

I'm hopeful we'll get him and again I think he'd be a top signing. The fact Porto hold an interest and Roma tells you all you need to know. They all have to stump up the cash though which it looks like we are willing to. His dad is quite rightly holding out for the best for his son. CL is important. My view is he is 20. He has plenty of time for CL.

Worrying we are getting the brother of course as it will be the dad runnings things. I'm hopeful but not confident as they are big clubs we are competing with.

Who the **** wasn't a Shearer fan? The best striker in premier league history... It's such a stupid thing for the media to point out.

It's a real shame that MA didn't loosen the purse strings last summer - we could have been adding Mitrovic to Lacazette, and already have partially sorted that reeking defence.

It's good that we are looking to make some moves this summer, but leaving it until we have it all to do at once obviously gives us the issue of settling in numerous new faces simultaneously and having to wait for the team to gel properly. Hopefully McClaren can handle it as well as Pardew did the summer we signed Cabaye, Ba etc.

Mitrovic in the stands today for Anderlecht as they drew their last training camp game 0-0. The Sporting Anderlecht Twitter page is reporting that he's on his way here.

I agree wholeheartedly but there is no point dwelling I suppose. As long as actually follow through with getting these new players, we move in the right direction. There is no question we have cocked up the previous attempts.

Cant see us signing enough to quality to make a huge difference, however its encouraging.

Rudiger would be a decent signing. Has the height, 6' 3", and capped by Germany at all levels. He'll do for me.
