Today, once again, our club - Hull City AFC - was saved from being exterminated by a madman. The fans that fought on the frontline to protect its history, identity and heritage through CTWD & HCST should forever be immortalised in the annals of Hull City history. Fans on here such as Sunbeam-Tiger and elliotgold..... People who wanted Hull City to cease to exist - I pity you. This is a war Allam will never win. Stop apportioning blame to your fellow fans and instead realise the damage that this insane dictator is wreaking on the club. He my have saved it. Then he tried to kill it. Twice. Dyke and other senior FA executives stunned the governing body’s summer conference by throwing their weight behind Assem Allam’s latest bid to rebrand the club as Hull Tigers. But the FA chairman’s about-turn on the matter backfired as 70 per cent of those at St George’s Park voted to back a motion blocking the change. That was more than in April last year when the club first applied to change their name — a decision quashed on a technicality by an independent tribunal. Dyke and his board were also branded “dictators” by its newest member, who was among several officials to attack them over the handling of redundancies being made at the FA. But it was the vote on the Hull name change that witnessed the biggest split between the professional and amateur game, with one source describing Dyke’s defeat as a “blazers’ revolt”. “It was the blazers what did it,” he added. please log in to view this image Aseem Allam has threatened to walk away from the club if their name is not changed Several FA directors – including vice-chairman David Gill and new chief executive Martin Glenn – voted the same way as Dyke, who revealed he had changed his mind about the issue despite the fierce opposition from the majority of the club’s fans. Dyke, who originally opposed the name change, admitted he had been “prejudiced” against the move because he did not realise that Egyptian-born Allam had such strong links with the local community. The FA chairman said he met the businessman, who settled in the East Riding of Yorkshire in 1968, at last year’s FA Cup final and was eventually won over by his argument that Hull needed to rebrand in order to raise their profile overseas. The 75-year-old has repeatedly threatened to quit the club if the FA did not agree to his demands and they have been up for sale for some time. His son, Ehab, who is also Hull’s vice-chairman, said they were now considering their options. He added: “We always knew that following a change to the FA’s policy, the chances of changing the name were slim but we also feel it is important to fight for what you believe in and we believe that being called Hull Tigers would be the best strategy for the future.” The Hull City Supporters’ Trust said Saturday’s vote proved the Allams’ plan was dead in the water. It added: “The trust hopes Assem and Ehab Allam reflect on the FA’s decision, that they cease using the meaningless terms ‘Hull Tigers’ and ‘Hull City Tigers’ all the time and instead embrace the club’s proper name once again. If they do continue to pretend the club’s name is anything other than Hull City AFC, Hull City Supporters’ Trust will oppose them as vigorously as we are able; we recognise the value of both the football club and the city, even if they do not.” The Football Supporters’ Federation added: “This is a great day for Hull City fans. Everyone who has vocally argued against the name change, through CTWD and then the Trust, or as individuals, should hold their head up high. The "Blazers" in the FA should do the same Everyone who has argued AA should be able to do as he likes because the club owe him a lot of money should take a look at themselves in the mirror and ask themselves whether their position is tenable given the views of the whole country's footballing organisations...who realise this is a big step too far If anyone (apart from AA and EA) think there would be any actual positive from the name change they should explain exactly why, but I assume that would have happened by now so I assume they don't exist Greg Dyke should suffer a vote of no confidence from the rest of the country's footballing organisations. He is completely out of step with the views of most people involved in football. He has taken a stance which may encourage this fiasco to run on and on and it is a stance which perfectly shows why so many people, me included, are falling out of love with football in general over and above the name change fiasco
Greg Dyke has as good as admitted that he was against the name change when he thought it was just another foreign owner but for it when he realised that he was local - he's supposed to be kicking racism out of football
I just read that article and the exact same thought occurred to me. I took it a step further tho and wondered how many of the 70% also thought like that.
