Let's start off by getting an idea of how much we all drink: select the nearest to your weekly alcohol consumption in UK units.

Edit: to help you calculate your intake, these are approximate units per drink
    wine glass - 1.5
    wine bottle - 9
    normal beer/cider pint - 2.5
    super strong beer/cider pint - 5
    shot of spirit - 1.5
    alcopop - 1.5

I do all my drinking in a 10-20 hour period Friday night/Saturday morning. After that I'm tee-total until the next Friday. <ok>

I've been drinking in "moderation" every day but when you add up the units it's too much so I'm trying to stick to just drinking at the weekend (apart from curry night on Wednesdays obviously).

How the **** do you go 48 hours without eating? I'd be sick as ****.

I only really drink on a Friday night, but I feel like drinking a lot more often. I used to be a chronic piss-head when I was younger.

When I was 21, I shared a flat with two of my mates - our birds basically had to remind us to eat and questioned how much sleep we'd had all the time.

Couldnae do it these days - even after a night of gurning, I like getting my heid doon.

Apart from the obvious health issues involved in over doing the booze intake, is'nt the big issue with drinking the effect it has on others. For example is it a problem when someone drinks 6 pints and a bottle of wine then falls asleep on the sofa? but if another person drinks the same then decides he needs to smash car windows on the way home he has caused the problem. So it's not the quantity we drink its the personal effect it has. I used to drink somerset cider and for years could not work out why i was waking up in the police station on a sunday morning being charged with assualt that i had no memory off, strangely i stopped drinking the cider started on the stella and no more police station breakfasts. I suppose the moral is we all no how drink effects us personally the quantity is irrelevant its the level of self control we retain that is important.

I used to be a bit of a beer monster when I was a kid, probably the biggest drinker in my local at the tender age of 20. Never did drugs apart from the odd bit of weed. But even back then, I still had to have a bit of kip and something to eat. Maybe it was the lack of class As.

I drink hardly anything compared to what I used to. When I worked in London, it was pretty standard to have 2 or 3 pints down the pub at lunchtime; on Fridays, we often spent most of the afternoon in the pub unless an urgent problem came up. When I first moved to Holland, I went for a beer with a couple of other Brits one lunchtime and the Cloggies were horrified. Some **** told my manager and I was advised not to do it again. Despite their laid-back image, the Dutch have a deep puritanical streak running through them and you see very little public drunkenness.

I think getting older affects your drinking habits. There's less opportunity for a piss up as most of your mates have kids and can't get out so often. Your body is also less able to handle alcohol. In my 20s, I could go out drinking all evening and get up feeling fine the next day. Nowadays, I feel rough as a badger's arse if I have more than 4 pints the night before.
