80's, people going on to university was approximately around 12-15% today currently, 43-50% of school-leavers go on to university. Did New Labour make further education an after school club to keep down the unemployment figures for school leavers?
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/educatio...avers-to-university-says-education-chief.html The proportion of young people entering university should be raised to 70 per cent, the Government's new higher education adviser said yesterday. Sir Alan Wilson, who has been appointed the first director-general of higher education, believes that the wider attendance will be necessary to meet future demands of the economy. Currently, 43 per cent of school-leavers go on to university, and the Government has pledged to raise this to 50 per cent by 2010.
No, it's true. I've left this time last year and only one or two of my 6th year haven't gone on to Uni. There are far more places on useless courses now. One example aswell is that only 30% of Law graduates will be allowed to practice law, what's the point of that?
Ginge you **** <ooooook **** all wrong with a career flipping burgers, I`ve been selling my hot dogs for years hoping to get spotted by Ronald Mc Donald.
I went into MacDonalds the other day and the hefty bird behind the counter said "Sorry for the wait". I said "don't worry, cut down on the Big Macs and your'e bound to lose a few stone fatty".
I was in MacDonalds at the week-end and the big fat tart behind the jump went Ooohh sorry love there's a stone in my shoe! I said there's 18 stone in the other one so crack on fatty!

Most of the time yes. Unless you "need a degree" Most kids coming out with degrees now are not the sharpest pencil in the box
interesting argument. you could go down the track that in the 80's working class people would be able to get a trade or a job in manufacturing or work down a mine. so if you take away the main occupations what are people gonna do? should they push trolleys round their local asda or go out and try get a career. many employers now will not look twice at you if you dont have a degree the problem at the moment tho is too many people are doing pish degrees that mean **** all. i used to work with a guy who had a degree in buying and selling property abroad, now unless you plan to buy and sell property abroad it is a waste of three ****ing years. (he worked in a call centre in newcastle).
