Les Reed speaks to BBC Radio Solent

Reading some of the posts on here, I don't think just signing that trio would be enough. They would have to sign 7 year contracts with 90% sell-on clauses, for an initial figure rising to a fiver with the add-ons.

 

Yes, however if you were the person checking them for him, you may be tempted to show him that one just to see how he reacts. Can you imagine (just for fun before someone tells me it wouldn't really happen - I know!) in his office Monday morning:

Les: "So JWP (I've selected him as Les' 'boy' for the purposes of imagining the scene better) are the fans happy with all my efforts in trying to get Toby?"

JWP: "Er mostly boss"

Les: "What do you mean 'mostly'?"

JWP: "Well some think it clears it up, but there is this that says you're just a lying, cheating, covering your own arse, cockney buffoon, who just lost us the best defender web had for years, just because you tried to be a smart arse!"

*PS. Just a point of grammar - where I used the word 'mostly' in Les' speech, do any grammar police think the punctuation around it is correct? Seems odd with so much punctuation around the one word.*

 

I am amazed at the vitriol shown towards Les Reid on this forum. I do feel we somehow 'missed the boat' with Toby, but he and his team have done an amazing job the past few seasons that has come to the fore this past couple of years; given the intense competition they face 24/7 from EPL Teams and other European teams.

 

I am not perfect (I know that is a blow to some of you), but in theory it should read: Er, mostly, boss. However, for dialogue I would write: Er.....mostly, boss.

 

No Fran, I meant the one in Les' speech further down. It looked odd.

I do happen to believe Les...he depended on Toby wanting to come here. The whole plan fell apart once Toby changed his mind. One thing that needs pointing out though is that a person doesn't become useless because they get one or two things wrong. People tend to put others on pedestals and then throw them off at the first sign of fallibility. It's the same with the club...Saints is an excellent place, has a great Academy etc...failure in one area doesn't bring it crashing to the grounds.

 

I thought it looked fine FLT.

But I agree with Fran about the other one...

 

Same with players too. One bad game. One bad mistake. They're passed it and gone down hill.

To be fair, I don't read what 'I sorry I ruined the party' says as criticising Les. It's just a fairly simple observation that a chief responsible for the some job surely won't come out and say 'I've ****ed up'.

You should never have asked. That one should be: 'What do you mean, mostly?' I would remove the quotation marks round 'mostly' and therefore you could reduce the speech marks from '' to '. Or you could move the ? mark: 'What do you mean? Mostly.' Or 'What do you mean...mostly?' Let's sit back and wait for someone even older to punctuate it....though they may put a ? in the middle of a sentence.

The attitude, the Club never tells us anything, followed by they told me something, but I don't believe a word of it, seems to be the way to go for some on here. I don't like this attitude, but still would fight for their right to express it, if that is how they feel. I know I have been a bit too vociferous about some issues and have got it totally wrong by being too red and white striped biased. It wasn't my fault that it went wrong I just didn't see the wood for the trees, it took others with more nous to point me in the right direction.

 

Bit of a fudge on the spelling there - it's Gayle. Wouldn't want him here - he had a decent season at Palace, but wouldn't have him here; not in the same league as the other two.

 

Maybe Twatbeard and Lovren did us a favour - clubs question Saints players' value/worth now.

 

There's only one post in the whole thread "attacking" Reed - and that one is just pointing out that nobody in charge of a company ever comes out and says "I bollocked up".

I think there is far less vitriol being shown than some think. In fact, the thread is clogged up with people claiming there is a vendetta against Reed "on here" which simply doesn't exist. No one here distrusts Reed. We all think he is doing a good job. However, some people have queried some minor decisions and apparently that equates "meltdown" and some kind of Reed "slander".

Can we stop playing this forum "neggies" and "happy clapper" game? We are all Saints fans. We all care about Saints. We all want what is best. We all rejoiced in the turnaround last year. We are all optimistic - though, as I pointed out elsewhere, perhaps overly optimistic leading to overly ambitious expectations. I am tired of discussion being turned into partisan cheerleading. If someone is critical of something Saints have done, perhaps they have a point?

I thought only god was perfect?

 

The irony of your post is that hardly anyone has said Reed is getting bashed. I had a laugh at ISIRTP's post about Les and clearly said that. A few then made light of that.

Sometimes people read too much into things. No one has really moaned about anything.

Relax.
