Ah, so it's your opinion and not something about to be announced then? I agree that he seems most likely.

Yeah. Considering Lucas has hardly played and rumours of him being shifted can't see him getting it.

Sakho, is his English good enough yet? Captained PSG at young age so potentially there in a couple of years.

skrtel captained the team last year as well as his country and at the moment, even if people aren't keen, looks to be first choice cb

    It makes sense to me.

If he signs a new contract.

It was meant to be signed Monday

I wish Suarez was our new captain...

    Sturridge for vice captain!

Can't remember where I read it but Skrtel will become the 3rd highest paid player at the club.

I think Milner and Sturridge are the highest.

Sturridge aside, we're paying stupid amounts to 'decent' players.

And there is no way Skrtel should get captaincy - he's not a leader, shirks responsibility and is a selfish player.

Whilst I think Sakho is the only leader in the group, he is injury prone but I'd still give it to him because he's exemplary on and off the pitch.

There is a rather high contract yes.

However the way the money is going in the game everyone in the top half is capable of paying 80/90k. the savings we were making on wages were base don revenues without huge tv deals in them so unfortunately 100k is going to be a more normal thing.

if you look at the growth in average premier league wage it shows no sign of slowing.

last year it was 43k. thats would include all the promoted teams and smaller clubs etc.

Agree with inflation and more money pumped into clubs via new deals will naturally inflate salaries but not to this extent where we're giving these sorts of players huge contracts. It's incredible. Henderson on £100k a week. Madness!

you need to go check whats going on around the houses.

seriously 100k when players are getting a new contract in the next period is not that high or out of line.

the average wage in our league was 43.7k last year and it was 25k in italy.... 23k in spain!

look at the rates clubs round us have been having to give to players

our average salary in 2013/14 was 67.5k per week. that was 5th highest.

theres a lot of different contract legnths and where players are in their career in that.... but.... you are talking about brand new contracts i nthe light of the new tv deal. milner was a free. as a result his wage is prob 50k higher than others. henderosn is new on 100k. but put it in context.

west ham average weekly wage was 27k in 2013/14. that was 13th highest. they just gave winston reid 70k per week when he signed back up.

you can't tell me that they whole league is not going to accelerate here.

you also can't tell me that when the city are on 100k and utd on 90k that we can ever compete if we offer henderson 70k and he says no thanks and walks off.. you can't have it both ways...

Then I would tell them to do one.

Milner on £150k a week plus a big signing on fee is ridiculous for what is essentially is a glorified squad player.

This is why being in foreign markets is far better value for money.

but then we'd me really midtable wouldn't we?

miner turned down more to join us and play. the thing is he's not a squad player glorified or otherwise is he... thats the reality as is his wage.

sure those markets are good initially for value, especially when the euro is so weak but in the end.... they will all want the going rate too.. agents are not that dumb.

I remembered reading a while ago when Sterling and Ibe were being compared following gossip that Sterling 's agent was being pushy - to put it mildly - that Ibe's mum is his agent. I wondered if it was a joke so I googled it. Ibe says - '‘I don’t believe in having an agent. I don’t really see the need for one to be fair. My parents do the same job and they are my family which is number one to me. I can trust them and they are the best people. It’s not that I have had a bad experience with agents. It is just my opinion, I don’t see what they can do that my family can’t.''

it is until he has success...

the thing is roy keane famously has a solicitor he trusted to go contracts and terms and image rights. Perhaps engaging a firm who specialize in such aspects commercially would help if you just want to focus on football and not be in for moving every 5 mins.

You think his principles will go if he has success? I trust they won't, he's got his head screwed on <ok>

I think he'll need more than his mum to look after him, thats what I should say.... professional advice will be needed.

It's both his parents and who knows what his dad's occupation is. I think it's great anyway and if the footballing authorities outlawed agents we'd see a lot more sensible advice being given to some of the kids at least.

Yeah but without agents then I imagine a lot of young players would be manipulated by chairmen and executives. So there's always that.

Well not really because they'd have someone representing their interests, a parent or someone they trusted [up to them how much they paid them] Or the PFA could have a committee that was dedicated to that side of things.

Exactly. Same as it was in years gone by, when players were bullied into signing crap contracts by over bearing managers and Chairmen.

Agents will never leave the game now. Ibe is being naive, and I'm sure as his career progresses his attitude might change as he compares pay packets and sponsorship contracts with his colleagues.

I think Messi has his father as an agent and he seems to do quite well, there is another famous footballer who's brother is his agent but I can't remember who that is.

Not everyone's parents understands what the difference between a good deal & bad deal is or how to force clubs into giving them a better deal than they are getting. Parents are just as likely to get starstruck and get conned into signing a bad deal as the player is. That's why they usually sign with an agent, because a parent doesn't have confidence in their ability to negotiate a good deal so they turn to agents who promise the player the world.
