Think you are being a little unfair on Sterling because he's being a **** bag.

He's a far superior player to Wright Phillips. Wright Phillips could probably hit the ball better but everything else he is worse at.

Sterling is faster, stronger and more importantly a far better dribbler than Wright Phillips. Wright Phillips could only push the ball and run whereas Sterling can dribble either side of the defender/midfielder. Sterling is suffering from a i'm the best syndrome though as he holds on the ball far too long nowadays and shoots when he is rubbish at shooting. Needs someone like Suarez who he looks up to and will bollock him to get the best out of him.

Saying that i don't think Sterling is a 30m player let alone 50. He does have a lot of potential though

no really not sure he's fast at same age. you are right though sterling is holding the ball way too long and playing away from goal on an ego trip.

I'm just pointing out the at the same stage of career SWP had achevied just as much individually but look how it ended for him... your lot used him as a sub. he went back to city for the money and did faff all.

Sterling could easily go the same way.

Agreed Sterling could go a similar way if he gets benched but to say that he's at a similar to Wright Phillips when he moved to us is way off the mark. For starters Wright Phillips was 24 when he moved to Chelsea. Also Wright Phillips was a far more limited player whos main asset was that he was fast. He wasn't a fantastic dribbler and his crosses were hit and miss. He could occasionally strike the ball well but if he didnt have half the pitch to run past a defender he was usually not that great (hence he flopped at Chelsea, not that we are the banner for giving players a chance though). He had a few performances where he could run at defenders on the counter and score a few goals and became majorly overhyped.

For all of Raheems Hype you can see he is technically much better and you know if you leave a defender 1 on 1 with him his dribbling and speed combined means he will do the defender more often that not.

my goal reference above was form his city days which was younger. Sterling has been given every chance with us... more than he merited on many occasions so he's had lots of games.

he was 21/22 when at city and stelring has had 3 years under his belt now at 20.

If i was in a one on one with sterling i'd just show him his left foot and stay up cos i know he's only options are to flop over or scuff his shot.

SWP wasn't great but it sounds like cheslea should sign sterling up if he's that good... come on make an offer

Haha, that's just one aspect of the game. To be fair we do need a right winger and someone to counter attack on the right hand side just like Jose likes it.

You are correct to just show him onto his left, but his goal at chelsea where he just went past cahill shows he can do it and do alright. Likewise he setup quite a few chances going down the line on the left wing and crossing it in. Where it all went wrong was him ball hogging it and trying to get it back onto his right foot to shoot in which time the chance had gone

He's a quality player.. the fickle nature of fandom does get the better of us all, every now and then..
Think, if he goes to City, buckles down and becomes the player we all think he could have have been for us, if stayed... then he'll be a regular there, even with their squad, anyone that thinks different is deluding themselves!
He's only 20, work on his finishing and he'll be pretty darn special!

i don't think you can "work" on finihsing. i watched mcmanaman for years. exactly the same type of thing. he had pace, was a far better dribbler and passer than sterling but was useless at shooting.

mcmanaman had a decent career but was a bench asset at real.

I think sterling will have to go some to make it at city but at least he won't be savaged for missing like he would be at real.

You can definitely work on your shooting. I don't mean those instinctual ones where you stick you're foot out. Case in point:

    1. Fat Frank when he first joined Chelsea had an alright shot. His hard work made it into a lethal weapon where you knew him from 25 yards was a decent opportunity

    2. Suarez was pants finishing wise in his first season, got better but still pretty poor in his 2nd season, was absolutely deadly in his 3rd season. Turned into a finisher or just lack of confidence?

    3. Messi when he first started out wasn't great at scoring chances. Now he scores for fun.

    4. I always thought Wayne Rooney would score the spectacular goals but miss the relatively easy ones. He's much better at finishing his chances off now than he used to be.

He'll have a series of " one years" with clubs..he's had his with us. He'll go to city and have a top year with them and they, like us will proclaim he's arrived as wC player...then he'll get bored or distracted and he'll either strop, disappear or do it all again at another club...

He'll then, if he still paying maybe grow up, probably when he loses his pace and realises he never became the superstar the fat agent and his hangers on told him he'd be. He'll maybe discover a couple of years of form at the end like bellamy

Its a shame...but I think it's more likely than him developing into the next Ronaldo...ronaldo did extra training not get tired, go on holiday mid season and pull sickies....

    or get done for drugs.

you guys know eventually if he thinks he is smart doing what he is doing now eventually he will figure he can get away with a few parties....

I think personally he was never on for ronaldo simply as the physique was never there. strikes me as a robinho almost.

can you find 50 of those... even i could tell you about that one.

how about league cup final.. the mcmanaman final. thats says it all really about his talents being wasted a bit at us.

you could tell lampard worked hard on his bad foot in particular, neve rlooked natural but was good.

suarez is a streaky player. he has a technigue, shoot early, shoot often. he said himself the go in or they don't. his frees are an extension of his latent talent as in him applying himself. i would not say confidence with him so much as better support, more opportunities and he never stopped shooting.

sterling since the age of 15 has never shown me an ounce of that.

as for rooney... thats only cos he can only waddle to a tap in now <ok>

    Here's some more at least:

Who cares? It's nice to just enjoy them. And I think you're doing a bit of a disservice to his time at Madrid.
