    Italy and The Netherlands shot themselves in the foot at the last World Cup by ignoring how the ranking system works. If you play friendlies against lower ranking teams, it'll negatively affect your ranking even if you win. They divide the total ranking points accrued by the number of games played to give you an average. Beating a **** team in a friendly doesn't give you many points, and you've played a game more, so your average goes down.

    Both Italy and the Cloggies played friendlies against Mickey Mouse teams before the last WC and missed out on a place in the top pot as a result.

    Correct my learned friend. Italy played San Marino in a friendly and I think the Nerherlands played a former colony like Suriname and because they are pish they lost points. I think England also lost points when they beat Scotland in a friendly too
