Possibility, according to Chris Bascombe? Very welcome, if so, in my opinion.

    Thoughts?

I presume he has the qualifications - not sure if he has the top flight coaching experience as some other candidates.

I'll just have to let go of the notion of us bringing in Meulensteen and Pako. :(

Didn't realise he was Houllier's assistant at Villa. That's encouraging. <ok>

Got the playing experience which is something we lack in terms of coaching

  5. He was manager whilst Houllier was having health concerns too wasn't he?

Hope he can put some steel and resolve into the team, badly needed qualities, get players to step up and take responsibility and that

He has managed Coventry City and Leeds United, as well as serving as assistant to Gerard Houllier, the manager who brought him to Anfield, at Aston Villa.
    Is this enough experience?
However, at least, he has some European experience, unlike the other two coaches.
    It's a positive move (I hope).

First post - no comebacks please.

    Welcome <ok>
You been a lurker or completely new?

He has a decent amount of coaching experience but I really do think he could be a big influence from a players point of view. He had a big influence with the players when he joined the playing staff in his later years, so should be able to offer that same insight to the team if he joined the coaching side.

Look at all our coaches and even Rodgers, none of them have experience from playing at the top level

Right, looked a bit more into his experience - has management experience and time as an assistant with no real success. No real coaching experience and has been out of the game for 4 years.

As mentioned previously, there are other candidates I would rather go for.

Jimmy you seriously need to do some research.

Mullen stein insulted Rodgers over lack of coaches so will never be considered. As far back as a year ago he was looked at but he then said what he said.

Pako is a manager and wants to be his own man... end of.

I find it perplexing that unless you had a silver spoon in your mouth at a big club or were a genius who turned dog ****e into gold you must be no good.

Mcallister started out at Coventry. Probably a mistake. ... you do know they had zero money and have never done a thing before or since don't you Jimmy?

He then went to Leeds which is a club of his so it'd be like shearer and newkie. ... it's a ****ing basket case.... it was even more of a basket case than then.

He then went to villa as coach and assistant manager with houllier.

    And that's about it.

What I would say is that to the best of my knowledge he would be the least qualified senior coach if hired.

He is a legend for one seasons work. His record doesn't suggest to me he's desperate to coach given long absences from the game as well as no pro license.

Apologies - I didn't realise wanting top quality coaches with high level experience is a bad thing. <ok>

The likes of Ings, Bogdan, SOD, McCallister may all do well for all I know. But the problem is all 3 have no real success or high level experience (In the case of Mac, Im referring to his coaching career).

Now we can get a world class coach and they could flop.

Point is - every signing is a risk but it's about mitigating that risk as much as possibly - so going for top quality coaches will help that.

We're not in a position to keep taking risks. After Roy, we hired a young, highly regarded manager in Houllier and we enjoyed success. We then hired another well known manager in Rafa and again, we enjoyed success.

We then went for Roy with no real success at high level, albeit brief experience at bigger clubs, KEnny (who had been out of the game for a while) and then Rodgers. We failed under all 3.

its obvious rodgers doesn't want to hire anyone who would be a threat. hyppia will not be hired. neither will carragher and i will bet any moeny gerrard won't be eventually either

Roy hodgson is irrelevant in this discussion though...

    1. hired by G&H and purslow
    2. actually highly regarded and punched above his weight (even if that weight was minnow)
    3. is good enough for crappy england.

Kenny is irrelevant as he won a trophy!

    Rodgers is obviously a failure.
