You get that feeling sometime. Things don't always work out in life. Only a few months ago, people were lauding the club and team for a good season, but as soon as something doesn't work, the knives are out.

Yet on this board, there are 10x more comments from people telling us everyone is in meltdown. The only meltdown is from the people continually calling meltdown at any point someone expresses concern at the transfer policy... Surely people are allowed to be frustrated that a player who said he would stay and the club were 'positive' over signing joined a direct league rival? The club do owe the fans a lot, and if we can't blame them for contradicting themselves, who can be blamed. The club have wasted an opportunity here. Surely negotiations should have finished shortly after season ended if he had previously stated he wants to stay.

How is saying some people are having a meltdown a meltdown? First I heard of that. Toby decided to join Spurs that should be the end of it. But nope we have to go over what may have or may not have happened for no reason at all. The only thing we know is Toby decided to move on even tho we were still trying to get a transfer done. Toby himself kept saying he wanted to wait to the end of the season and talk to AM etc.

End of the day, Southampton are the one's who look stupid now. A possible legal battle over a player who we thought should have signed for us, that stinks of arrogance in the negotiation department to me.

So the meltdown is really from the people who are saying the meltdown is the people who are in a meltdown but they're not really in meltdown, it's the people saying they're in meltdown who are in meltdown?

Meltdown? I need a lie down!

The season finished a long time ago. And during this time we have made contact with several clubs and signed several players. And these are players who have no history of the club at all! The common denominator of our drawn out transfer sagas is us.. It has both positives and negatives. And losing players who were on loan and wanted to sign to a direct rival is one of the obvious negatives!

Exactly this. Toby knew Saints/Ron wanted him. He chose Spuds. Fair enough.

How do you know this? Were you in the talks with AM? Do you know when and when we weren't talking to them? Do you know when Spurs first got in contact with Alderweireld or AM? Or are you simply saying it so you can have a moan?

Unless he wanted to go to Spurs all along. He said he'd like to stay. He never said that I want to stay at saints above all else. He has been very diplomatic and fair all along.

At least saying about the closer airport is better than saying champions league :)

You wrote it twice as much as I, and ignored the majority of my comment...

Then why was Koeman publicly 'positive' over the transfer less than a week ago. If all signs in the Southampton biased media point towards an outcome and then that doesn't occur, is that pretty damn annoying? Especially to Spurs and Pochettino. I love the Saints, but that's outrageous.

Couldn't Alderweireld have been positive to Koeman?

This is a shame, but ultimately not one we could do much about if he really wanted to go there. What I don't understand is why we went so aggressive in the media threatening legal action, and claiming we were very confident of signing him? In the end, although we may get a couple million in compensation, it's very poor PR and makes us look weak and a little petty. It reminds me somewhat of the Lallana v Clattenburg debate - we came out with a strong stance in the media and were made to look very stupid.

Shut up you obnoxious prick. I am not simply having a moan. And how do I ever imply I was in any transfer negotiations. It is blindingly obvious we have been in negotiations with other clubs as we have signed some players. I clearly stated we should have started the talks early to bring in a player who stated he was happy to stay. Now as a result of not doing this we have lost him to Spurs. People can have opinions differing from yours that are not 'moaning'.

Nice, you can only resort to abuse isn't it. It basically ruins your whole argument

And for what its worth, you're very obnoxious.

And just because I don't agree with your opinion does not mean I am a obnoxious prick does it? I was simply stating we haven't a clue what went on so why try and guess? Even the usual people and papers that know things were changing their minds everyday. The transfer was a mess, but we can't blame Saints for that as we haven't a clue what went on.

This is better than listening to my kids on who's turn it is to have their I pods playing in the car. And Relax.<doh>

No, I think you're an obnoxious prick due to the way you phrased those five sarcastic questions one after the other, which ignored completely what I said in favor of assuming I was ITK, despite listing facts only available on the Southampton FC social media outlets. I am saying, that I a supporter am allowed to be frustrated in the way in which this transfer saga unfolded. Given the signs pointing towards him joining Saints and then ending up at Spurs. Why are the club not to blame here, another club sneaking under the table is not a viable excuse, everyone knows football is a dog eat dog financially motivated results driven industry. It blind naivety to think a big club wouldn't come in for a big player such as Alderweireld. Therefore Southampton must have to shoulder some blame?
