Let's be honest Piskie, no United fan has expressed any real interest in the proposed sale of RVP (feel free to provide evidence to the contrary). The whole subject has got you all worked up though. He left a while back, deal with it and move on!
I don't doubt you lot won't be unmoved to see the back of him. He's a washed up old has been. It was probably a good job we sold him when we did.
Just saw something on twitter of arsenal having 725+ goal difference since the prem when spurs have +4 lol says it all really
Someone should do Piskie a favour and verify the stat before he starts ranting about it (as a joke of course!).
The stat is Spurs have a +4 goal difference per season since the start of the Premier League where as Arsenal's is +20 per season
So basically, Nasri, Clichy, Fabregas and van Persie have all left Arsenal and gone on to win the Premier League ?
Yep, but it's still interesting to see how all their careers progressed after they left. Clichy has become a bit part player for City, who always has a stinker of a game in him. Nasri despite two PL medals, has not shown any progression as a player, he is still that inconsistent player who rarely turns up in big games, he has all retired from international football at the grand old age of 28, thus missing the chance to play in big home tournament next year. Fabregas failed at Barca after they chased him for years and was not even half the player he was at Arsenal, has returned to Chelsea to win a PL, but for me this Fabregas is not a patch on the one that was bossing the European champions on their own ground in 2008. RVP as mentioned above has one amazing season at his new club and then followed that up with two bang averages ones, and is now heading to Turkey. I firm believe that all three of Nasri,Fabregas and RVP would have continued to been developed by Wenger and they would have been better players than the ones they are today, especially Nasri and Fabregas, but they did not want to wait during our 'austerity' period and wanted to win straight away which was perfectly understandable.
Van Persies best season was his first at United. One of the best individual seasons in PL history. Hes always kept a respectable scoring rate even in his second and third season but his injuries prevented him from doing anything more. The guy loved it at United. You could see it in his face. He had the time of his life and got the big prize to boot. He finally got to feel what it was to be a winner.
He had his best ever season. Twice finished top scorer at United and always got double figures despite his injury problems. We got exactly what we paid for.
If wished RVP had stayed and helped us to try and win the title, but in hindsight we sold him at the right time. He would have ****ed off on a free a year later and if we'd have given him a new contract we would have been saddled with the old crock as Utd are now.
We really need to move on,Nasri,Fabregas etc.are Arsenal's past.Personally I'm only interested in the future
I can completely understand why Arsenal fans would be pissed with RVP to be honest. They stuck with him during his vast amount of injury hit seasons, Wenger kept faith with him, then he finally gets an injury free seasons and fulfils his potential and the straight away he wants to f**k off? To one of the Arsenals biggest rivals no less!! I think it was ****ing awful the way he acted. Ok I can understand him maybe wanting to move away to win trophies, as Arsenal were in a trophy draught, but I just think he went about it horribly, and he could have gone to literally any club he wanted on the back of that season, but went to the club that was in direct contention with Arsenal on all fronts. I don't understand the Fabregas bile though, he wanted to move back to his boyhood club, his home, which is perfectly acceptable. Then when they wanted rid of him, Arsenal snubbed him, when he most likely would have gone back to Arsenal if they'd wanted him. So then he gets a great offer from Chelsea, is he supposed to turn that down because a former club he hasn't played for in years, fans' are stroppy, when their club snubbed him anyway?
Good post and spot on about RVP. Cesc wanted to go to Barca when it was clear to everyone that he wouldn't get game time so should have stayed till Xhavi retired and then moved. Cesc missed his last home game to go to watch F1 and that irked fans. Lo and behold when he didn't get games at Barca he then wanted to come home to Arsenal but he had missed his chance as we had bought Ozil and he wasn't what we needed then.
Well thats fair enough, Arsenal didn't need him. He wanted to go back to London and his preferred club said "no". So he gets an offer (most likely a better one than he would have gotten at Arsenal) from Chelsea, who ARE winning trophies most seasons, based in London and willing to pay him more money. Would you turn that down? For fear of upsetting the fans of a club that have snubbed him (whether rightly so or not)? It was a no brainer.
Of course it was a no brainer after he realised that a return to Arsenal was not happening. I dont have sour grapes over Cesc I just think he lacked composure when it came to decisions about when to leave us as he went when he could have stayed for another season or two as he was young enough, and then when he realises that the grass ain't always greener on the other side and that he wasn't going to displace Xhavi he then asks to come back without realising we had moved on without him.
At the time I wanted us to re-sign Fabregas, but now looking back at how well Ozil has progressed, Wenger was right to pass up on the opportunity.
