Coutinho's best performances in 13/14 came from a deeper position - the Arsenal game at home is arguably one of the best performances in a red shirt in history.

He has the ability to link midfield with the attackers - he created space and chances for SAS and Sterling that season.

    2. o'driscoll says pump it in the channels.

    3. caoutinho and firmino and of course the great hair himself are all "wonderful technicians"

Think ideally he'd play at the top of a 3 man midfield or as a 10/inside forward.

Think the idea now is Coutinho and Firmino behind Sturridge. Width from fullbacks or Milner/Henderson drifting wide when we attack. We'll see I suppose.

Lot of options which makes it interestg - still missing one big player in attack though, be it a striker or another attacker. Someone like Pedro, Laca or Auba would really complete the attack.

I cansee it a lot like our 3421 last season, but with attacking full backs instead of wing backs a DM replacing the middle CB.

A lot of the time I can see us being shaped lie this when in possession:

    xxxx
    xxxx xxxx
    xxxx
    xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx
    xxxx xxxx
    xxxx

Whilst out possession it will be a more solid 433/451.

I like what the 3421 offered us attacking wise, and with a better striker we could have gone back to the times of winning every game 4-3 again. Defensively it obviously had its issues.

Definitely... someone to occupy defenders and leave space.

Will say one thing for Benteke... from any ball he occupies two players... one to challenge him in the air and one to attempt to dispossess/take the knock-down.

Would much rather have someone with pace/creativity though...

    That could be very likely.

Think as fans we often don't appreciate the fluidity of formations.

Will annoy me if Rodgers changes things during games as much next year though. Seems to think he's Pep-lite. Not sure our players are smart enough.

I would only use coutinho as one of a midfield 3 when there's options about him and the team we are playing suits

I'd never play him against a top 4 side like that. they will blow him out the water... hell oscar got dropped by mourinho every time a big team game came up.

coutinho needs to be led a bit. once everyone picked up after our first crisis he picked up as he had someone to pass to but his work rate and closing increased. he's not a leader type IMO.

I would be starting him as left forward and getting him close to goal not deeper.

My thought would be that LFc will buy a striker and we will have 3/4 options for no 9 role and we will have our pick out of 3/4 players for the wdie players too. ings and origi and sturridge shoudl be competing with a new striker and lallana coutinho firmino and ibe should be competing for 2 wide slots

the midfield unfortunately picks itself IMO with lucas and allen as reserves so for me next year this must be improved.

Defence seems sorted for now. LB will remain a problem and the quality of CBs is questionable but at least theres some compeittion.

GK will remain an issue in my book

ergo............... LFC MUST sell borini, lambert, balotelli and buy one striker. theres at best 20mil to come in and 160k of wages to shed.

The 3421 basically allowed us to have 2 numbers 10's supporting the striker with out loosing width, and it allowed us to create a solid range of chances from all over the field. Unfortunately those chances often fell to Sterling who cannot finish.

exactly occupy the CBs and force them to drop off out of fear. pace in behind is ideal for this.

the more space firmino and coutinho have to find around the oppositions final 1/3rd the better...

sure ok benteke can occupy on in the air but thats a 50/50 kind of ball most prem teams like.. our lads aint the best at running off this type of thing either.

  11. There is no way we'll be playing three at the back this season. We were shocking last year, Brod realised (eventually) that it wasn't working and we've just signed Clyne!

Definitely... Think Rodgers will be tempted by the straight 4-3-3 at the start of the season though.

Such a pity Sturridge had so many issues. Would've been a very different season with him scoring around 20 goals and allowing Lallana, Sterling, Coutinho more space and a meaningful outlet.

Aye I agree I'd much rather have someone in the Lacazette, PEA model than Benteke... less of a risk despite Benteke being .PL proven'

But would Benteke be the next Carroll? Don't think he'd be 'that' bad.

We may see it 1 or 2 times, but I agree. But I can see us using a changable 433 again, with attacking full backs joining midfield and a DM dropping deep when we are on the attack.

if he has it must be 2 weeks wages. instantly. it cannot go on. that is an internal missing training disciplinary action.

I say hold firm on transfer but you have to deal with him now.
