They weren't over rated when they left? It's not our fault Liverpool don't know how to use them..... I mean Toby has just had a good season, but Lovren was even better than him the season before. Who know's what Liverpool do to them up there?
One does wonder. I’m worried Saints cast some kind of spell to prevent them performing for other teams. It can’t be that Rodgers screws them up royally. In American sports, you may or may not be interested to know, the worst deal in history is Brock-for-Broglio, in which the Cubs swapped a future Hall of Famer who set career and season records for most stolen bases for a pitcher who couldn’t pitch no more. Brock-for-Broglio really rolls off the tongue.
"One does wonder. I’m worried Saints cast some kind of spell to prevent them performing for other teams. It can’t be that Rodgers screws them up royally." Could be a hidden kill-switch they set before the departure. Hopefully Atletico never installed one in Toby.
From the sounds of it then I presume Atleti would want premium dollar for a player like that? A good deep lying playmaker is so hard to come by these days. I'm also surprised at Cabaye, he's pretty much made it clear he wants out of PSG, the only thing I can presume that may be putting teams off is perhaps his wage? I reckon he's on big bucks there and so teams may not be willing to match it... Otherwise I can't think of a reason why no one has made any concrete offers.
Out of interest, the clause in Alderweireld's contract between Soton and Atleti, were they able to purchase him at any time for the agreed price or was it only at the end of the season unless Atleti paid the cancellation fee?
So Toby's dad apparently said this. Toby Alderweireld has to tie his transfer Tottenham Hotspur . " The transition with five seasons for a total of 16 million euro dominated yesterday the latest football news . Premature , as it turns out a day later. British media go a step further and say that today Alderweireld makes medical tests at White Hart Lane. In the camp of the player one denies that there is now an agreement. "We have no one with a concrete agreement ," Vic 's father and agent Alderweireld very clear. " There are conversations right and left. But currently there are no changes from the last few weeks . " Last year, the Red Devils had to wait a long time for sports security with a loan turn to Southampton. Now angling clubs in July already emphatically for his services. "We're still early in the transfer window ," Dad Vic remains sober . "We are now just that there is only a breakthrough in the last week . ( Laughs) So we wait as in previous years off . " https://www.voetbalkrant.com/nl/nie...ireld-wij-hebben-met-niemand-een-overeenkomst Google translation so you know it's a bit messed up.
I think the truth is no one knows but doubt we would of made it public if weren't 100% we had a case. Reckon this one will run and run...
Latest twitter rumour is that Saints have bid €20 million to try and secure the deal. Wonder if we would match it? Lets just face it, with so many conflicting rumours flying around we just have to sit tight and see, and hope Alderweireld is worth all the trouble whoever he signs for.
No. Only an agreed fee at end of loan agreement unless Atletico paid us the £1.5m to take him back. They didn't pay us, hence we (rightly) feel that we should be able to purchase at the agreed fee. That's what the fuss is about.
Southampton's CFO has left the club after less than a year: http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/13372688.Southampton_s_chief_financial_officer_leaves_club It might be a coincidence...or it could be he ballsed up the Alderweireld situation royally and is paying for it.
I'm being a killjoy aren't I I've been waiting all day for some concrete news of the transfer so in reality I'm being a massive hypocrite too and constantly refreshing twitter. The journos might be getting messed around but they'll never stop. Someone has to keep printing the guff to keep the pages full of copy.
Don't rate him that highly personally and think it's a mistake to judge him on his form with Southampton as they sit deeper and defend in more numbers. He'd be more suited to Chelsea. Just look at Lovren, great at Soton and then found out when he has a more attacking side set up infront of him. Bentaleb signing a new contract is great news. I'm just hoping we can sort out a midfielder and a striker soon with a few more outs. Wouldn't mind McCarthy, he's a good player and I think he and Bentleb would be a good partnership.
I also assume the clause is just basically that Saints bid the right amount (and probably all upfront) and then Athletico have to accept it. Doesn't stop any other club bidding slightly more and Athletico accepting those bids and letting the player decide where he wants to go based on the contract offered. Just sounds like Athletico have made a right pigs ear of what should be a relatively straightforward situation.
