I thought the defence was bad but when you see the midfield column, words fail me1

The large amount of midfielders and the need to make space may be holding up the incomings.

Fergie as a defender looks a bit odd like.
Lots of sustandard players in there mind.

Looking it like you have listed shows just how much work Schteve has on his plate!

Tiote and De Jong shouldn't be written off. An on form Tiote is our best midfielder.

Colback, Abeid, Anita, De Jong, Sissoko, Aaron's and Cabella. Seven decent players for me. Add a wide man and that's not bad.

Our players aren't as bad as the second half of last season suggests. It's just that's the standard that sticks in the memory because it's the most recent. George Caulkin wrote a piece towards the end of last season saying "the players are trained but not coached". That's a huge statement to make and shows how bad things were under Pardew and his cronies. Don't be surprised to see huge improvements in players previously written off such as Cabella, Tiote and Anita.

I do agree with the latter comment, not sure midfield needs any pressing reinforcement at all. You look at that squad list and the defence is almost sickening for a PL squad.

    Yeah the defence is poor.

I'd like us to lose Willo and Colo, sign Matip and Veltman (or any decent centre halves to be fair) and then have Taylor as third choice with Lascelles fourt choice. We'd also have Dummett who could cover there too.

I haven't given up on Dummett or Haidara. Both still young lads.

I'd take Cabaye's word over Caulkin. These journos know **** all, they know as much as me and you. They don't see what goes on. If Cabaye (who has been coached by some very well respected coaches at domestic and international level) thinks Pardew is a great coach, that's good enough for me.

That midfield you mention is decent. Maybe even mid table level if you can get a few firing and keep them out of the treatment room.

The defence is awful. We need two centre halfs and a left back. The strikeforce is woeful. We need minimum of one there but more likely two. Cisse's knee seems a recurring problem, Perez is young and Riviere is just useless. Armstrong is yet fulfill his promise but needs time.

I agree with DPP, Schteve has a hell of job on his hands unless he is allowed to bring in 5 or 6 and completely revamp the defence.

Looks like Kemen is off to Liverpool or Spurs. And the ambitions just keep growing.

So we're linked to a player and it's bullsh*t but when one of our players is linked with a move it's all but certain he'll leave? Can't have it both ways surely?

I can't believe they'll sell Kemen. That would be a massive backward step. This reeks of an agent agitating for his player to get more game time. He should - out on loan. The papers this time of year just make it up as they go along.

Given Liverpool have actually signed some ****ing players, I know where my money is.

I mean look at this twatting garbage:

    http://whatculture.com/sport/club-chairman-expecting-definite-newcastle-bid-for-forward-soon.php

    From their chairman:

It's £300k or so. And we haggle and haggle, and think, and ponder, and might, just might, make a definite offer. Soon. Ish.

<laugh> You're not happy at all are you? Best phrase I have heard in a while on here, I think BRS would be proud of you.

It seems a bit of a punt this one but then so was Perez...

    Ha!

Let me explain how my mind is working here - the chairman of Northampton Town (no, me neither) has aired his views about this nobody coming to Newcastle. It is actual quotes, it is actually real. Ok, now here's where it gets depressing - first, we really are fcking about haggling over a £300k kid. This kind of money should be such a nothing decision, such a quickfire simple press of a button, that it beggars belief we're stumbling around like this, "considering making an offer". What's to consider? Sell on value? Surely to Christ he's been scouted and is either worth a punt or not? I fear that this is the way Charnley does things, it's his gameplan. He's not bothered about the football, about investing, he's bothered about cheapest price and if it means signing this kid for £100k less but on the last day of the window, he's pleased. It's diabolical.

But my second fear is that this has all come out. Chairmen, particularly in France or Holland, are rarely very secretive. Derisory offers are snorted at in public, decent offers for available players are showed to the World to encourage auctions, or turned down to publicly show affection for their coveted players. The Northampton chairman has made himself completely open to discussions, there's no "NDA" in place, no privacy clause signed preventing him saying Newcastle. It is never really in a selling clubs interest to keep our interest quiet. Or am I wrong? It stands to reason that Ivan Toney is by all accounts currently the only player we are even close to signing, and he's a £300k League One kid.

Give it time is all well and good, but does anyone really believe it's going to be any different in a week? Or a month?

If we replace Mike Williamson and Steven Taylor with better foreign players in our 25 man squad how does that effect us in terms of "home-gown" players?

Out of the 27 Players who would need to be registered I'd leave out and loan (w/recall option) Ferguson, Good, Bigirimana, Vuckic (4) sell off Williamson, Gouffran, Obertan, Marveux (4)

Bring in CB, RB, CM, LW, RW, CF to make up the 25 man squad
