20 players boarded a flight to Faro on Monday morning for our pre-season training camp in Portugal. The full squad to have travelled is as follows: Goalkeepers: Eldin Jakupovic, Allan McGregor Defenders: Alex Bruce, James Chester, Curtis Davies, Michael Dawson, Brian Lenihan, Harry Maguire, Andy Robertson, Conor Townsend Midfielders: Robbie Brady, Ahmed Elmohamady, Tom Huddlestone, David Meyler, Robert Snodgrass, Matty Dixon Forwards: Sone Aluko, Nikica Jelavic, Dame N’Doye, Greg Luer Mo Diame unfortunately misses out as he continues his recovery from injury at Clairefontaine in Paris, while Abel Hernandez has been given extra time to recover after representing Uruguay in the Copa America during the summer. Three members of Tony Pennock’s Under-21 squad have been given the opportunity to train with the first-team squad - Matty Dixon, Conor Townsend and Greg Luer. The players are due out for their first session in the intense heat of the Algarve at 6.15pm this evening. Surprised Max Clark wasn't included on the trip, especially since Dixon and Luer are. I think by now Townsend needs to be in and around the first team unless Bruce/Pennock don't think he is good enough, at 22 he shouldn't be in the development squad really.
As someone just pointed out on Twitter, despite including three of the youth team, we still can't play an 11 a side practice game. In fact, of the twenty we have taken, three have been injured and may not be playing in games yet either.
No. I'd have them fit. Obviously we're well short but if all those players above were fit, there'd easily be a quality starting 11.
Aye, but they're not all fit and at least three or four of them will be on their way soon, I hope we start shopping shortly.
And a week of squinting at photos trying to spot the identity of potential trialists begins. Weird that Tombides and the other new guy aren't in that squad. Interestingly, we do seem to sign a few players while abroad, I'm pretty sure Sagbo and Graham signed while we were out there. I'd also guess that Watson might be going out on loan this season, I'd have thought he'd be the third choice this season otherwise.

Maybe Clark and Watson not going out there means that they are looking to sort out loans so need to stay in the UK?
