If we (the club) knew, for absolute certainty, that there was no need for us to go above £6.8m, then I am completely fine with us not going above. Why spend a penny more when you legally do not have to?
At the same though, I'm not at all completely fine with us going down the legal route - unless of course the end result is that we get Toby! I don't care whether or not we have a legal leg to stand on, because fans and the media will not care either. If we do not get Toby, then am I sure that this will only end up with egg on our faces. So many people will see this as sour grapes or us spitting our dummy out of our mouth. Even if actually it's not the case, and we were well within our rights to take legal action. We've built up a lot of goodwill over the past couple of years; neutral fans wanting to see us do well etc. It would be sad to damage that in any way.
Not the biggest PR disaster in the world, I grant you. But still something I'd have preferred we avoided (again, unless we have strongly believe that taking such action will get us Toby). It wouldn't be worth it just to get a few quid in compensation, or to make a stand.
