I said how do you know we haven't gone above it as well.
I don't but we haven't agreed a fee and if the reports are correct we could afford to match the Spurs offer. If we've matched the Spurs offer and Atletico have refused to sell to us then that's a different story. I'd be amazed if that's the case though.

Or AM have been talking to Spurs for a while. A fee was agreed and is basically a done deal. Levi goes over there to conclude the deal and this is the first time Saints hear about it. I mean hear proper news, not the news that is printed in papers over and over again.

We may have been moral. I don't think we've been smart.

The fact we are risking a player of his quality over a technicality that COULD save us 5m (ish) is slightly worrying. Will be a great shame if he goes to spurs for just 11.5m. How much were we willing to spend on shane long again?

I'm going to buy a new car today. I've got some documentation which suggests I can get 50% off, but forget that, i'm going to spend £60,000 on it instead. Go me.

How do you know we didn't say fine make it £11m but were told too late Toby has agreed to join Spurs?

Or we've been mugged by a bunch of unprincipled shysters and are now considering exercising our right to legal redress.

Although the general consensus on here seems to be that we should have been as corrupt as atletico and spurs. I can't agree with that myself.

No, I don't agree we should have been. I think we should do whatever it takes to try and get Toby on board, then deal with the legal issues after that point.

If that car was in fact worth about £200,000 and there was a chance that your documentation wouldn't definitely get you the car and someone else may buy it instead; then yes, you should go out and get the car for 60k whilst you still can.

A contract is a contract.

If Toby doesnt come to us, i would love one of the big four to come in with a bid for him, just to piss off Spurs. Preferably Arsenal.

This is exactly it, we don't have the full story. We can only go by what little information we have along with rumours.
Or just wait and see. But while we wait agree that AM have been shady.

Each to their own. I see it as you can't blame Saints, you can only AM for what they have done.
To be honest Beefy; I do not think we look that good either. We had a potential world class CB publicly stating he wanted to join us in March and we do not seem to have put all the pieces in place before the loan deal closed. We appear to either have been too complacent or relying too heavily on the loan contract to get our man. Toby should have gone on vacation with one thought on his mind; sign for Saints.
