This is now like a phone in vote. At the moment the rumours favour a 80% Spurs signing / 20% saints signing. What will be will be. I would love Toby to sign for us but I have the feeling that if AM want to sell to Spurs and Toby wants to go their, he will.

Toby Alderweireld can sign a 5y deal at Spurs. Clubs have agreed on the fee, but [HASHTAG]#SaintsFC[/HASHTAG] may look at a legal steps against Atlético. [HASHTAG]#THFC[/HASHTAG]

How nice to have both the ugly sisters in Liverpool and Spuds as our panto villains this season.

Bournemouth fans are going to have to up their game here...

Hmm....I'm disliking this current turn of events now.....

But let's wait for Ron. He's completely incapable of being anything but honest...

Starting to look like the threat of legal action was a desperate last minute attempt to stop spurs signing him. Not looking good but still no official word as of yet so anything is possible.

I'm beginning to feel the same way about Toby as I felt about all the others that left last summer. If he goes, it's because he doesn't want to be at Southampton, and we don't want players forced to stay here against their will. So it's a fond farewell and a "thanks for everything" from me Toby.

Now, on to next business...

Yeah, same. My initial reaction was that the talk of legal action was a desperate, last ditch roll of the dice and I'm starting to think I was right.

Speculating a bit but, assuming the player would have been happy to join either club, I can't help but feel we may have dicked around a bit too much here and relied on a technicality in the loan agreement instead of just getting a deal done.

That and AM ****ed up.

How can this be Saints fault?

I think what Puck is saying is we should have said "**** it" and at least matched Spurs bid (that is, if we didn't) rather than trying to wangle a cheaper price through a technicality.

We could have at least added Tom's fiver to the bid too...?

But if you feel you have a genuine, real chance, to get him for 6.9m - then you're not going to throw another 5-6m down the drain are you? Some of our fans want to see us back in the financial crap.

It's up to Toby and if he choses Tottenham, there's nothing we can do. Tough it seems to me that we will look a bit stupid if he goes to Tottenham for, let's be real, a bargain price, because we relied on some technicality, instead of paying what they want.

AM are the ones who have messed up not us. You really think we would have leaked about lawyering up if it wasn't true? A agreement was in place and AM went against it. Why would Saints think "ah you know that agreement with AM I bet they go against it and sell Toby to another team that's bid higher" they wouldn't. The only problem is that this is football and AM will probably just get a slap on the wrists for breaking a contract.
