Apart from Gomez no teenagers are getting any press. I suppose a proper fee was paid for Gomez.

I think to be fair to SOD he has had a few jobs that were mission impossible (Notts Forest & Bristol City in his first season), so he may be a pretty fair manager given the right circumstances. However, as others have noted that is not really the issue; is he likely to help our chances in closing the gap on the top clubs? I don't think he will!!

Since Suarez left, every decision that Rodgers has made seems to have taken us a step back not forward? Most of his signings have been woeful and wasteful. Adding Milner may be a good addition, but if you want to close the gap on your rivals you either have to improve the side with quality additions, or improve the coaching staff? I don't think we have done either!!!!

Pep Lijinders was poached from Porto - one of the most highly rated youth coaches.

Echo says he will continue with academy coaching with a few first team responsibilities - we will be hiring another coach in addition to SOD. <ok>

thats fair. I mean the forest fans were happy enough but their owner took an executive decision. Bristol city was a crazy situation but hey....

he is a coach. no assistant is going to turn Brendan rodgers from a nearly man to a top manager. It doesn't work that way! it'd be like saying all i need do is get a great PA (like homer simpson did once) and i'll be a CEO in a year. Either you have it yourself or you don't.

    .....................................

since suarez left? oh you men what 12 months ago right? frankly before that lovern was too expensive.. tha was said and lallana was a pointless one as was said at the time. Balotelli is still IMO a sackable offense.

Milner, clyne and firmino all improve what is a middling first 11. thats a good thing. the younger lads under pursuit all improve a lacklustre u21 set up IMO. We've shorn the best of the crop and whats left is uninspiring now.

whats missing is a genuine striker. LFC will have to go an awful long way to catch utd or city for 4th but we should be clear in 5th IMO and well u there trying at least to put pressure on... we were not a top 4 side in 2013/14 with loanees like moses and then aspas floating around but we got there. to get it consistently needs an awful lot more.

but if we improve this yea ron last where's the beef?

    "
Liverpool will confirm the appointments of Sean O’Driscoll and Pep Lijnders on Monday as the majority of the Reds’ squad return to Melwood for the start of pre-season training.

And Brendan Rodgers is likely to appoint another member to his backroom staff as part of a summer reshuffle in response to last season’s hugely disappointing Premier League campaign.

England under-19 coach O’Driscoll is expected to be confirmed as assistant manager in place of the departed Colin Pascoe.

However, it is understood Lijnders, promoted from his role as coach of the under-16s, will not be a direct replacement for former first team coach Mike Marsh, with his role instead centred around elite player development.

It is anticipated the Dutchman will also continue to work in developing the very brightest prospects at the Academy."

iverpool Football Club today confirmed the appointments of Sean O'Driscoll and Pepijn Lijnders to the first-team coaching staff.

O'Driscoll joins the club as assistant manager to Brendan Rodgers, while Lijnders takes on the newly-created role of first team development coach after 12 successful months at the Academy.

Rodgers said: "I have made these appointments because I want to take us in a new technical direction, in terms of coaching.

"I believe the entire first-team set-up will benefit and I am extremely positive and excited about what we can achieve, as a group, going forward."

O'Driscoll arrives at Anfield with a wealth of coaching experience, most recently as England U19s manager. He's also been at the helms of Bournemouth, Doncaster Rovers, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City.

"My admiration for Sean, as a professional, is well documented," said Rodgers. "He is someone with a clear vision and philosophy and has proved he has the ability to transfer that knowledge, through his coaching, to the players.

"I am looking forward to working with him and also learning from his experiences and gaining valuable knowledge from his expertise."

O'Driscoll added: "I am excited to be joining one of the world's most iconic football clubs. The hallmark of any successful club is its culture and that comes from the people who work there, from the chief executive and first-team manager to those people behind the scenes whose faces may not be known but who are the lifeblood of the club.

"From the moment I drove into Melwood last week and was greeted by Kenny the gateman, I could not have been made to feel more welcome. If you are going to have any level of success these people are as crucial as the players; from my experiences so far it is clear everyone wants to help this club succeed."

Lijnders, who held roles at PSV Eindhoven and FC Porto prior to joining Liverpool in 2014, oversaw the development of the club's U16 group last season.

He will continue to work with the elite talent at the Academy as part of his new brief, which has been created in line with the new technical approach to coaching undertaken by the club.

And the senior squad are now also set to benefit from his regular presence at Melwood.

Rodgers said: "This presents a fantastic opportunity for Pep and one I know he will grasp with both hands.

"He has excelled at the Academy and I believe this is the perfect time for him to make the step up to the first-team set-up and use his talents for the benefit of the senior squad.

"Pep displays a passion and enthusiasm for his profession that is truly infectious and I believe will have a positive impact."

Lijnders added: "I feel proud and honoured to work closely with Brendan and his staff. I couldn't think of a better attacking manager to assist.

"Everybody knows how I feel about representing this amazing club. The owners have a clear and strong philosophy which is based on developing top young players into elite - I want to thank them for giving me this opportunity.

"I had a great first year at the Liverpool FC Academy; Alex [Inglethorpe] and his coaching staff are creating something unique there. Again, I am proud to be part of the team and we will give everything."

Pepijn Lijnders takes up the newly-created role of first team development coach at Liverpool after one season spent imparting his philosophy and particular approach to the game upon the club's U16s squad at the Academy.

Lijnders' impact since his arrival in August 2014 has prompted Brendan Rodgers to bring the highly regarded coach into the senior set-up to work closely alongside the first team.

The Dutchman will also continue to figure prominently in the development of elite young talent at Kirkby, as part of a restructured technical approach to coaching at the club.

On his new first-team duties, the 32-year-old said: "My main goal is assisting Brendan to implement a development programme, a programme that will non-stop stimulate the offensive individual capacities of each first-team player, but also give young talent the chance to develop to first-team standards."

Lijnders' promise was evident when he first took up a post at the club, with his CV already impressively stocked courtesy of five seasons at PSV Eindhoven in his homeland and a further seven at FC Porto in Portugal.

He had forged a strong bond with the staff and young players at Porto but admitted that Liverpool was one of the few clubs in Europe that could have tempted him to undertake a new challenge.

When the Reds did make a move to secure his services, though, the decision was ultimately 'a logical one' - with the dedicated coaches already in place in Kirkby, the passion of the supporters, and the city itself combining to present an undeniable opportunity.

A studious thinker and analyst of the sport, Lijnders' deep love of football is obvious from the moment that he begins to discuss the game and the areas which he feels are fundamental to improvement and success.

He explains: "I believe that winning is a logical result of development - development of the individual, development of co-operation and development of the team. I believe that self-confidence is a logical result of development.

"Everybody wants to win, every team wants to win. But how do you prepare yourself to win? That is what counts. That is what makes the difference over a long period of time.

"Consistency in performance is only possible when there is performance consistently. And performance only starts with careful planning, preparing the team and individual development."

Much of Lijnders' work with the U16s focused on a bold attacking style, instilling a mindset that tasked his charges with 'intense, aggressive' pressing across the pitch and retrieval of possession at the earliest chance.

Fulfil those objectives and 'you can make a top team or top players look bad', is the 32-year-old's belief. He is also a champion of incorporating the Scouse mentality to provide further edge in competition.

As part of the next emerging generation of young coaches, Lijnders is acutely aware of the obstacles lying ahead in years to come as elite level defences become better organised and narrow the field of play further.

He adds: "The first team wants players who are able to open up games and speed up the attack. We are working on a daily basis, individually and collectively, on those offensive, productive, creative and attractive qualities.

"With guts, courage, faith and a great heart, we look for fast individual and collective actions to get behind the defensive line.

"'You play the game 20 per cent with your head, 20 per cent with your feet and 60 per cent with your heart,' is a famous Dutch saying. It is how Einstein said it: 'Logic will get you from A to Z; imagination will get you everywhere.'"

He will now aim to take on that challenge as part of Rodgers' new-look backroom team at Melwood, in addition to continuing his stellar work at the Academy.

Tbh it was a joke when someone else did it last month. No sure if it was astronomical dribs... Can't remember.

I'd rather a flag on it than not as it's meant to be serious and so I've been keeping updated

I hope there is more movement in the transfer market both in and out, we have loads of players we don't need at this point and getting rid of some will improve the transfer funds and free up wages. Someone needs to get a move on!
