Toby signs for Spurs - official.

I guess that some people have forgotten that when we signed him on loan, he was an AM reject, it was the Saints that created the opportunity to show the World that he was quite a decent player, he couldn't have done that without a bit of our help, so he owes us something I am thinking?

So I've sort of skimmed through the massive influx of pages on this thread and I can safely say that I have absolutely no idea what's going on. Some people seem to think that the latest developments mean he'll sign for Spurs, others that he'll
Sign for us. Will we even find out tomorrow?
I'm sure we will have done all we can our end to land our man. I'll just cross my fingers and pray to The Lord of Light that Toby will be sitting on the Iron Throne soon.

As has been suggested by Jeremy Wilson, I think the best move for saints is to match the spurs deal less the compo money and we can all put this sorry saga behind us.

Well Wilson's article suggests that there was no need to exercise a right. It was/is automatic. (Which would be brilliant if the case, because Spurs then become an irrelevance).

I've spent the whole season not totally understanding the arrangement, in that how exactly would it have worked if Madrid didn't want to pay us £1.5m and were instead happy for us to have him, but Toby himself wanted to sign for someone else? But actually, an automatic transfer would explain it and take Toby's current preferences out of consideration (which he'd have known 12 months ago, when agreeing to the loan deal). Black and white, clear cut; either we get him for £6.8m or we get £1.5m from Madrid.

If it is automatic, then presumably the opening of the transfer window four days ago may have been the key date. It would make sense. Madrid have up until the day the transfer window opens to pay us £1.5m. If they don't, then we take registration of him permanently upon the transfer window opening, just as all other pre-arranged transfers officially happened on 1 July.

 

The article also confirms what we know, any club would have to pay £3 million more than us to make it viable for AM. Also say's we're more than willing to go over £11 million in order to get him. Tomorrows Press Conference should be fun then!

Then Toby still wouldn't be first choice, which he doesn't want to happen, then you have an unhappy player on your hands.

 

God knows. Within 30 days?! I don't know. If it is the case, then surely the contract signed 12 months ago would specify it.

Given that Madrid would have had up until the very last second to potentially tell us they were going to hand over £1.5m you couldn't really expect us to just keep £6.8m sitting in the bank to hand over ourselves the moment their deadline expired, if it were to. Aside from which, no/few transfers are paid 100% up front.

 

Why you?

 

I'm entertaining the notion that Atletico thought that, as we haven't tried to exercise our right to buy Toby for a pre agreed price before his loan ended on 1st July, his loan just basically ended and that they have no obligation to Saints whatsoever.

 

You know what I mean lol

 

One thing is certain...we won't get an Atletico player in the future.
