Why do Spurs fans always have to live up to my expectations? :steam:

I can not really understand why Spurs are willing to pay silly money or are capable of doing so. They do not have the global brand of say Utd, WHL only held 4 thousand more than SM, Levy is a tight arse that does not bankroll the club, TV rights are basically the same as us.They probably earn 30 mil a year with their yearly foray into Europe but they piss a lot of money away on poor signings and high wages. A new stadium could bring them to their knees, basically as SM helped to do to us but their stadium will cost 10x what SM cost . It does make me smile when their fans think of themselves as a big club, when they are so far behind the big clubs. Even if Toby goes to Spurs, pretty sure that he will be looking to move in a couple of years as he will want to win things and is good enough to play for a big club, basically he will do the same to us but with no hard feelings from me.

I'm sure we will. I'm not sure why the need for the (presumably) sarcastic smiley.

It's not like Toby is our player. He's not demanded a transfer or kicked up a fuss etc. He effectively has free reign over who he wishes to choose. If he chooses you - and I would be amazed if he didn't - then that's fine. He'll still have been, quite probably, our best ever CB in the PL. And I will still rate him highly and have much admiration for him. He'd be welcomed back at St Marys - friend or foe - anytime, with open arms.

You don`t sound too bitter, the only way saints will sign Alderweireld is if they offer him significantly more wages than Spurs, everything about Spurs is on a higher level compared to Southampton, from top to bottom Spurs are a far bigger club and draw for any player, 98% of players would choose Spurs over Southampton.

BTW, we will only be homeless for one season, and will likely be playing at Wembley, I wonder if Levy failed to mention that.

    Everything?

All those world class players coming out of your academy are hard to keep track of.

Southampton = Biggest club on the South Coast and within a 50 mile radius.

Spurs = 3rd, soon to be 4th biggest side (now that West Ham get to play in that lovely Olympic Stadium) ;) in London who are as likely to win anything as we are.

Dont think you lot have got quite as much pull as you think you have, but Spurs fans have been the same for as long as i can remember. DELUDED.

Don't forget that their scouting/recruitment team/policy is top drawer. They've never been one to waste millions of cash, or buy a total dud.

(Had the WUM not said "everything" then I would have been inclined to agree with him. Spurs are a bigger club than us. It's why it's so laughable that they, and Liverpool, only just finished above us)

Two things, A: Saints are not a direct rival of Spurs and B: they never have been and never will be.

Who are your "direct" rivals in the league then? The past two seasons we've finished within 3 places of Spurs. More direct then you may think.

Arsenal, City, Utd and Chelsea of course. Spurs should be finishing top four every season, don't forget...

And yet possibly beating small Southampton in a race for some player makes you jubilant enough to come gloat on our message board. Yeah, it shows just how huge you are.

I bet he says Arsenal despite the fact they have absolutely no chance of finishing anywhere near them. <laugh> They're obviously rivals but they can't compete with them on the pitch. :)

A: yes the are. B: times change in football. Both Saints and Spurs will experience rises and falls. Who expected us to challenge in europe all those years ago in league one?

I'd say the opposite may be true actually. He's played at Southampton so he knows and works well with the squad, he knows, works well with and admires the manager, he likes it here and is pretty much guaranteed to start. Those things may be true of Spurs as well but it's more of a risk for him going there. As Southampton are in the Europa League too the only thing Spurs can really offer that Southampton can't is a huge wage packet. That may or may not sway him, depending on how high Levy is prepared to go and how important the money is to Alderweireld.

Even Gary Lineker said Tottenham are Tottenham, meaning they spend the money, they pay the high wages yet achieve nothing. Toby will be offered at least twice the wages at Spurs, we will match his valuation but its down to him where he wants to play. twice the money and living in London has huge appeal, even if its playing on Hackney Marshes:emoticon-0130-devil
