Decent as he is, I'd much rather we saw a central defender through the door first off the bat. Attacking midfield is an area we have cover in, and if we have limited funds I'd rather we pay extra for a top notch cb. Still If he does come hope he shows flashes like he does on the inevitable scout nation video

    - soon lining up again with Janmaat?

Amid growing press claims that he's set to become United's first signing of 2015, midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is expected to start pre-season training alongside his PSV Eindhoven colleagues on Monday.

The 24 year-old was granted extra time off by his club after playing and scoring for Holland last month in their European Championship qualifying win against Latvia - Toon pair Tim Krul and Daryl Janmaat also involved.

Rotterdam-born Wijnaldum began his senior career at Feyenoord and debuted for them when aged 16 in April 2007. Joining PSV in 2011, a goalscoring debut for the Dutch national side followed against San Marino weeks later and he won the Dutch Cup in his first season.

152 competitive appearances in all competitions for PSV to date have brought him 56 goals and 14 strikes in 33 outings last season saw the Championship head to the Philips Stadion (Memphis Depay scored 22 and our old favourite Luuk De Jong somehow knocked in 20).

Moving for a claimed €5M in 2011, Wijnaldum is now valued at around €15M (£10.6m) and signed a four year contract extension in August 2014. Standing at five foot 10, the right footer plays in right and central midfield.

Also linked with a move to the mackems (having played for him at PSV), Newcastle were first credited with an interest in Wijnaldum in early 2013 although it was Moussa Sissoko that was subsequently acquired.

Two and a half years on, it remains to be seen whether Wijnaldum gets his chance in a black and white shirt - and whether it has Moussa's number 7 on the back....

I think you'd have to say he would be a good signing.

However he doesn't really play in an area we are desperate. If he is just one of many though then why not. Its 2 CB's, a LB and a CF I'd like to see though.

I'm going to be the opposite of Mr T for a bit.

We are going to buy lots of good players and make a tilt at Yewrope.
    I also love sky pundits.

He's just the sort of player we need. Exciting, fast and technical. Though I don't totally buy that a deal is agreed.

I think its fairly pressing, I cant count De Jong as a proper player till we see some consistent playing time, sissoko can be unreliable and im not even sure he will be here, cabella im happy to see if he can contribute this season but honestly, who knows. The others are the others. If hes as quick as I remember then id take wijnaldum happily in open, loving arms.

Well, that is more hopeful. He'd certainly be an exciting signing. Wont be holding my breath though.

Your Sissoko replacement I'd imagine, he's a box to box midfielder who I'd rate better than Sissoko on account of him being a far better grafter defensively.

To attract top quality CB's you're going to need some top players in the door, it sounds a bit catch 22 but somebody like Wijnaldum would be a draw for other players I'd say.

Too bad Joe ****ing Kinnear isn't around anymore. I'd pay a fair bit to have him pronounce Wijnaldum
