This could be the Italia 90 moment for women's football, 25 years to the day of that semi final.

Didn't watch the whole of the match. I saw some of the highlights just now, but how good was some of the defending from England?

Brilliant from our lasses, never saw it coming after the first game v France but where are France now?! First time ever beating Germany in 21 attempts, 3rd place in the World Cup, they are all heroes!

They out-defended Germany which says it all, not only that they out-muscled them and out-played them, wonderful to see.

I'm hoping this is the moment that little girls see and want to emulate. To join in and participate. Think where women's football could be in this country if they hadn't banned women from playing for so long.

Houghton's clearance off the line was brilliant.

I reckon France were probably the best team in the competition. But they blew it against Germany after outplaying them.

Couldn't agree more, Germany were lucky to get where they did, much like Japan. Fingers crossed the USA win tomorrow too

Yea we are the better team and we have been improving every game. We could blow it like the last World Cup final and give up the lead twice and then lose in penalties though.

I'm not that impressed by Japan. USA to win 2-0 or 3-0.

Get the first goal and you'll walk it. Japan have not impressed with inspiring football. They're patient but boring, looking for the oppositions mistakes rather than making the opposition make mistakes.
Your lasses have some spark in them - I just hope they don't freeze and use it.

What's with football in the US? Must be boom time - women reaching the finals and the men do well in tournaments. Now the MLS attracting star names and some of the games draw decent crowds. Never thought I'd see the day. Will it overtake or has it already overtaken some of the more traditional US sports?

It's overtaken hockey but that's it right now. It's beginning to approach youth participation levels that our other sports have and should surpass some of the main sports in youth participation in a few years. I foresee it being the most popular youth sport in my lifetime (remember there is cross over) and on the same level in popularity as a pro sport as baseball, football, and basketball.

Also it's not new for our women to do well, they are the most successful female national team in the women's World Cup. We have 3 titles, 2 runner ups, we have never been ranked lower than 2 and we are in the finals again.

Cheers Elle. I remember one of my mates did a year as part of his degree in Seattle. He was staggered at the support the college team got (American Football) he said it was just incredible.
