Agree, it's funny how some where labelling it the worst Derby they could remember, and the first 2 go out and win G1s impressively afterwards.

Golden Horn beat the best horse from the POW with enough authority today to prove himself a class act, and the best middle distance horse in the UK and Ireland atleast. He may well even be the best in Europe too. I think he may well be better at a mile and a half, as The Grey Gatsby appeared to match him for pace for a while and then stamina kicked in the last furlong and he started drawing away.

Well he's run 4 times already this season, so I'd imagine they'll just go for the KG and the Arc now, so that'll be 6 starts for his 3yo campaign.

I'm not sure he'll run over 10fs again as after today's performance he looks like a horse who's more about stamina than speed, he really picked up in the last furlong today

Agree Shergs- strong at the line in the Dante, won the Derby going away, really ate up the yards on the stiff Sandown finish today. I think it's wonderful that he heads to a King George. That race deserves Derby winners and top 3 year old horses to go there.

Its difficult to say I dont want him to run in the Arc because hes the Champion 3yo and a 1m4 horse but I dont think hes really an Arc type. That said, the Arc is the Arc and the greats win it, and it will be a lesser race without him. Took the 5/2 for the King George today.

Sea The Stars ran 6 times in 2009 when he was unbeaten that year, but he ran once each month from May to October, and he's already shown himself to be more versatile than Golden Horn by winning Group 1 races over a mile, 10 and 12 furlongs. I'd rather Golden Horn ran at York than in the King George, it would give him a few more days to recover (as he's already run 4 times this year). As for him taking on Treve in the Arc, can he really beat her? He's gotta be a world beater to do so!

I don't know what race Free Eagle will run in next, but it would be great if he clashed with Golden Horn before the Arc. I suspect Free Eagle will run in the Irish Champion.

Weld and Smullen seemed keen that he would go up to a mile and a half. However, maybe that will be saved for the Arc?

Jack Hobbs is going to be interesting to see how he is campaigned also.

I think a couple of them should clash at Ascot and find out what you're up against.

I don't know if he can beat Treve in the Arc, as she seems to find an extra gear on Arc day, like she did when bouncing back to form last year. But not many 5 year olds win the Arc, nor do many win it 3 times so I think aslong as the grounds good or better he'll have a fair chance at beating her.

If the grounds on the soft side I wouldn't expect him to run, and I think that would make Jack Hobbs the biggest threat to Treve. I think Jack Hobbs will really love the mud, and would be the biggest threat to her on that ground.

As far as Free Eagle is concerned, I'm still not convinced he's a genuine G1 horse. Yes he won the POW, but that was IMO one of the worst renewals of that race ever, and the only genuine G1 horse The Grey Gatsby got boxed in. Had The Grey Gatsby had a clear run he'd of beaten Free Eagle a couple of lengths. So the thought of Free Eagle taking on Golden Horn doesn't excite me at all, as I think he's beaten a superior horse today in The Grey Gatsby:biggrin:

The Grey Gatsby won't get within a nose of the Eagle next time they meet Shergy, that was close as he'll ever get. I don't expect you to agree however <cheers>

With regards today, the Horn has proven himself an exceptional animal. I love the way he was eyeballed and yet kicked on again. To counterbalance it, you must consider he's beaten up horses who've been involved in huge Royal Ascot races quite recently and it has been seen that has taken the edge of a few in their subsequent runs...

Can't fault the Horn though, and the one thing he's proved is he really stays which a few of us doubted before Epsom. Whether he's in a different league to, for example, the wonderful Treve really does remain to be seen. On today's evidence, looking at it rationally, you'd have to say he has yet to show anything superior what she has done. She's still the one to beat in the Arc. She's been there, done that and got the t-shirt. Twice :)

I'd expect king George and then maybe juddmonte, bit close but nearly 4 weeks! After that it depends on ground as he seems a firmish ground lover

Slightly off topic but Skybet are 10/1 Aguero to score first and Argentina to win 2-0 OR 2-1 tonight. Seems reasonable value to me.

Ofcourse I don't agree and Il be here to laugh when the 2 next meet and The Grey Gatsby reverses the form.

He's beaten horses that run at Royal Ascot, but he had a big race in the Derby only 10 days before the POW so I'm not having that argument. Besides not all horses need lots of rest between runs, there are plenty who could run to form every fortnight.

I don't think he's in a different class to Treve, what I do think is that he's got a chance, she's not bomb proof after all, she has been beaten. I'm still not convinced either that she's as good as she was at 3, but we will see

Oh right, I probs don't have it then. I got all Sky and BT sport but can't see it on there. You'd think paying the best part of £60 a month for those 2 subscriptions would get me access to all the games, but obviously not
