Just turned 18 Charlie,so senior rider next year. Ideally he'd like to make it as a road racer, don't think there's any money in time trialling !
Just an update for those who may be interested: fortunately the weather broke and the rain abated for the duration of junior's time trial. He came( disappointingly for him ) third, but due to the first placed rider being disqualified he was officially second. Possibly overcooked the first half, was up on field apart from the dq rider, but went a bit backwards over the last 7 miles. He's still not happy with 2nd, which I suppose could be a good thing. Coming soon, track nationals , 10 mile national time trial and A level results! He'll be on the A63 next weekend again, if it doesn't get called off........again.Thanks again for your best wishes, HCAFC
Thanks John, had forgotten about this thread. He's been in Belgium since March, learning the ropes. Plagued by injury, illness and mechanicals initially, but it feels like it is starting to gel now. Had a couple of decent finishes (apparently first year riders don't usually even finish), lost weight but increased his output by about 40w/kilo which is pretty impressive...apparently. So we'll see...
Good for him, cc. And thanks, John, for bringing this one back out in time for tomorrow - when Le Tour kicks off with a 13.8km individual time trial at Utrecht. (Stage 1 on Sunday).
To be fair Stan it was OLM's picture of the finish that resurrected it, and then saw CC post from last year. Looking forward to seeing how Froome goes this time.
Should be a great race if everyone stays on their bike. Tough to pick a winner from Froome, Contador, Nibali and Quintana. Then there's Valverde, Rodriguez, Pinot, Bardet etc which will make the mountains interesting. Shame Kittel isn't riding but should open the door for Cav to add to his stage win total. Tough to look past Sagan for the green jersey unless his team orders are to ride for Contador. Plenty of British interest again this year, 10 riders compared to 4 last year, 5 in the Sky team, Cavendish, Dowsett at Movistar, the Yates brothers at Orica-Greenedge and Steve Cummings. I can't wait!
Today's Stage 1: Utrecht - Utrecht (13.8km individual time trial) http://www.cyclingnews.com/tour-de-france/stage-1
It has been confirmed that Rohan Dennis has set the Tour de France record for the fastest ever individual time trial. Dennis' average speed was 55.446km/h. He broke the record that had been set by Chris Boardman on the 1994 7.2km prologue in Lille.
Done Trundlegate today. No stopping. Boom. 36 miles but sunny and very warm made it hard going at times. Took a self at the top.
Sure you'll get up much quicker than me John. Knackered now. Running tomorrow. Will then be knackered tomorrow. Why do I do it?
Mostly. Still sore in few places but ok to ride. Had to get back on or would have given up. Well I wouldn't really was flying today on the new bike.
