Ground update for Sandown please chaps as and when it's known. Mecca's Angel is going to crucify the group three sprint if there's a spot of rain tonight.
I just asked Wooly on today's thread Bob. Thinking pretty much the same. Good to firm he will probably not run, he will go on Good. Turn on the taps at Sandown folks!
Idont think you'll get any rain, it's baking hot down here guys. Probably gonna be pretty quick the ground tomorrow
I'm at Hampton court tomorrow,so miss the racing, but western hymn for me in the eclipse. Don't rate the the jolly Cheers.
WEATHER WARNING: if you are considering a punt on Beverley’s Saturday afternoon card, check what has happened overnight first. The track was watered before their Friday evening card but the overnight weather forecast here in deepest darkest East Yorkshire is for possible torrential thunderstorms (Met Office yellow warning). If one of them hits the Westwood, that will be rain on watered ground = false going.
Lancashire Oaks: Heavy late night storms could turn the good to soft ground at Haydock a tad softer and there's a horse at a big price who I've always felt had potential if the correct underfoot conditions appeared- David Simcocks MOMENTUS 25/1 each-way. I think Jordan Princess looks a horse who will relish every yard of the trip too and is the one to beat IMO but Momentus- a running on 3rd in last years Lingfield Oaks trial prior to being beaten 11L in Taghroodas victory at Epsom, might be seen to better light in a stamina sapper at Haydock. I've wondered if they'll try 1m 6f sooner rather than later but some give in the ground over a mile and a half looks interesting. She always keeps on well, but lacks a gear and she is always vulnerable at this level on the better ground, but if the ground can blunt some turn of foot on the leading players, I can see Momentus pinching some nice prizemoney of sorts.
With Mecca’s Angel out this is probably a no bet as she would have helped the odds. It is hard to fancy old Kingsgate Native here. Spirit Quartz and Stepper Point have not been troubling the judge this season, which leads me to the three year olds: the consistent Salt Island who drops in trip here and the improving course and distance winner WAADY, victor on three of his four 2015 starts. The Sandown 2:35 will be very interesting as it features Farhh’s brother BASEM, who I still think will turn out to be better than a handicapper. I expected him to be 3/1 or less but at 9/2 he is the best bet on the card. The four year old Jacob Black (in the first two all three starts this year, just beaten by Basem here last time) and the three year old Sahaafy (beaten favourite at Royal Ascot on wrong side of track) are of most interest amongst the others. In the Listed Fillies’ race at 3:10, the favourite could be Jellicle Ball, representing last year’s winning trainer but disappointing to date. Of most interest amongst quite an evenly matched field is the improving BLACK CHERRY, Richard Hughes’ mount an easy winner last time in a handicap here, with the main dangers appearing to be the unexposed Blond Me, Iconic and Montalcino. If it turns soft at Haydock, I will be steering well clear of it; however... Over at Haydock, the Lancashire Oaks (2:15) looks a good opportunity for MISS MARJURIE to improve on her Group 3 victory last time for Denis Oakley. Her chief opponent Jordan Princess finished behind her when they last met and there are few grounds to believe that she will reverse those placings. Four others have also been behind Miss Marjurie this term but her principal opponent may prove to be William Haggas’ Queen Of Ice now the yard has found form. In the Old Newton Cup (2:50), it is hard to get away from the Mark Johnston pair as they can both go from the front and WATERSMEET was a good fifth at Royal Ascot beaten a little over two lengths. Not sure why Penhill is favourite after being well beaten by Watersmeet last time and I think Battersea will need the race.
2.35 Sandown - Basem -4/1 Is surely a group horse in handicap company full brother to the mighty Farrh in which he didn't win a G1 till later on his career not saying that Basem will be as good but look at Frankel and Noble mission the latter was no way nr as good as his brother but class isn't born by luck as NM proved by winning G1s It must be something in the breeding. And if Basem runs anything like his reappearance or like his brother, he will make this lot look very easy
And in the big one Golden Horn and Western Hymn forecast WH loves it here as I think he is unbeaten at the track but will struggle gainst his stable mate
Of course racing is usually anything but straightforward, but I really can't see past the straight forecast in the Eclipse today - Golden Horn first, The Grey Gatsby second. What is that likely to pay? Maybe 2/1 ish ??
QM won't be alone in not liking the chances of the old war horse Kingsgate Native, I wouldn't be surprised to see him run a bold race. His three runs this time in have all been pretty solid and this event is hardly anything out of the box. He just seems a better chance than the double each way odds suggest. Go the old warrior. Make a stand for us old fossils.
Scoop 6 ew lucky 63 for me today: 2:00 Sandown - Kingsgate Native 8/1 2:15 Haydock - Lady Tiana 3/1 2:35 Sandown - Basem 4/1 2:50 Haydock - Watersmeet 15/2 3:00 Beverley - Noodles Blue Boy 14/1 3:10 Sandown - Jellicle Ball 11/4
Sandown 3.10-Jellicle Ball could be to good for this lot and win this race for inform trainer who won this last year. Btown 5.55-Gordon Elliot can do no wrong atd moment and is in spanking good form.He saddles Mr Steadfast who should be able to see off this lot. Both priced 4s Switching codes I backed Sergio Aguero to be top scorer in Copa America at 9/1.He is one behind Eduardo Vargas so need the old boy to pop up with a couple of goals in tonight's decider
