  1. Or you could do the AFC approach and put secrets within secrets upon other secrets and then secretly add a few more secrets to make sure there are enough secrets <ok>

I think the problem with having almost everyone with a role is that it'll mean less people are willing to put their opinions up and discuss things because they won't want to leave themselves open to be lynched. At least when you have a big number of townies with no info they almost have to come out and discuss things to find stuff out. Which means mafia have an actual chance to make claims and sway their thinking at this point. When there's a known innocent its really hard to do that, because as @InBiscanWeTrust says, no one can actually go against him or they'll look suspicious.

    Oh yeah, and secrets.

    I think I agree.

If we all have roles the conversation is just

    What your role.

    Not telling

    Mafia talk that.

    No you are mafia.

The innocent towine is a role everyone has to accept as it provides a plausible hiding spot for the roles.

It is also the guy that has to decide with their vote what to do.

We have in our games so many roles that it's actually a case of just sit back and wait for someone to eventually tell me what to do.

A simple game would have 3 Mafia 1 detective 1 doctor and 1 detective and 9 or 10 ordinary players.

By the time the dust settles the detective should take a mafia with him leaving 2 Mafia in 7 or 8 players prob all non role.

It's is then that you really have to get your thinking caps on and figure how to find the bad guys.

I like the idea of an arms dealer role. Someone who the teams have to bid to to buy their hit. Highest bidder on the day wins. .. they could have job of collecting x amount of money

    ....

In any event I am glad this has moved from mito thinks up something to everyone wants to make one up.

Well done Swarbs, I think it worked really well as a set up nd could have easily gone different ways if early decisions/actions by players with key roles had gone differently.

That's what makes these things fun, a mix of skill, analysis, strategy, decision making and mist of sll pure damn luck.

i like that each game is different though. We'd get bored if there weren't unique quirks/rules/scenarios to contend with. I have enjoyed all the versions I have played for different reasons.

I want to set one up where we all actually meet up in a bar armed with Bugsy Malone splurge guns and just say "right, fck it!"

How about I set up a Star Wars one with rebels (with a few with special roles including a Jedi with powers) vs hidden evil Sith team, plus a free roaming (unknown) bounty hunter who can potentially be 'bought' by either side to hit anyone, plus a secret Bothan spy who can feed info - but might seretly choose to double-cross and work for the Sith instead, spreading lies (either has to be decided up front and stuck to, or potentially they are 'influenced' mid-game if Sith activate a power). Just a thought.

    No?

    Too Star Wars nerdy?

    Fair enough! <laugh><laugh>

I knew it would be too themed for some.

BUT the pinciple or tweaking a couple of the roles can apply to any mafia style game.
    The idea is that :
    1. spies are complex and could align to either side, double-cross, tripple-cross, etc. so instead of a typical 'reporter' the independent 'spy' has more freedom to deceive and choose which side they are on.

    2. A bounty hunter/hitman who can be' bought' - need to figure out exactly how and whether they actually align, or are still ibdependeng like the SK role in that they are ultimately out to win on their own

Not concrete ideas, but just tryiñg to consider other ways of adapting these types of roles to keep it fresh.

    its super..

you can have a sith team.

the sith master can be killed by his apprentice if his apprentice wants to try. the maste rmust be strong enough to stop it.

the ejdi team can have the master die and the padawan can become the master

the sith can turn a jedi but a jedi can only kill a sith

the boutny hunter can hire for anyone.

    hmmmmm....... this is too good.
