It was 40°C in the shade in the Charente Maritime when I spoke to my friend there lunchtime yesterday and was talking about 50°C out of the shade. It got to 33°C here, and the forecast is for 28°C today.
We got a few spots of rain here in Weston, but that's all and it's like being in a sauna out there atm!
Morning all, a bit of a less frantic sort of day here I hope. Building works on hold until next week, but Mme wishes me to extend the watering system in her greenhouse. Occasional showers were forecast for this morning, but they seem to be passing us by. 37°C expected this afternoon, so stay indoors out of the heat is the best idea.
Frenchie, Do you live in a stone house with closable shutters? In my experience you can keep fairly cool until it cools down later.
I do indeed, and that is what we do although you keep the shutters in a V shape and the windows inside open in the hope of catching any breeze.
It took us a while to work out the perfect positions of the shutters. We have also lived in a couple of new french houses where the insulation, by comparison to the older stone built ones, have been much less effective. The artisans certainly knew how to build well in the 1800's. Take it easy, there is always tomorrow to do the jobs, although my wife is nagging me at the moment to finish a few....
Good morning all, little change in the weather here, so up at 6.00 am to open all the doors and windows to let the cooler air into the house. Yesterday the fan in the car suddenly stopped working, which of course stopped the aircon. Went along to see Michel at the garage who quickly worked out that it was a connection which looks something like a scart socket. He contacted Renault who gave him a silly price for a new one which he refused to pay. When I went back to see what was happening he told me he could take the offending pin out and solder in a new one. He would do that at home over the weekend and was sorry that I could not have it working before the start of next week. Nice to have someone who wishes to give service.
yes sounds like a decent car mechanic....which is what everyone needs we had torrential thunder storms here last night..... needless to say my mum,94, slept through it all!
