Those saying he should have been brave enough to **** Balo and Etto off and taken no one are too quick to forget the back lash when we signed no one after Carroll went. That simply could not have occurred again. I actually think there is good evidence now that Rodgers tries to get people in that we all want but is either told straight up no or we go in with pathetic bids and then they are snapped up by someone else or we're told to **** right off
Chill out ... some **** merged the thread obviously only read the title. Don't want to be ****ing up pages thread
The fact Rodgers has some say in the transfers in which players he wants is the fundamental issue in this whole process. Either make Rodgers the manager who has complete control on transfers, or make him First Team Coach and allow him to identify areas to improve and let the committee find the players. We can't have this mix and match system.
They are also quick to forget that in the same situation not one of us would quit the job either and do we want a Keegan who walks out at the first sign of stress? I think everything in the article is what we already knew isn't it despite the Echo (useless rag these days) trying to reveal it as a something of a surprise? We have a bunch of number crunchers running the club. That's been the same since day one. Great for the finances of the club so credit for that and they have driven the stadium expansion on (as we hoped) but these were their minimum requirements surely. As I've stated since the day they sacked Kenny (hate to say I told you so) these boys are number crunchers who wanted a number crunching manager. They know numbers but they do not know football or the nuances involved in players form, different styles of play in different countries etc etc. We have no scouting network anymore other than guys sitting on laptops in an office playing Footy Manager and watching youtube vid's. The transfer committee (including BR) has been a disaster and no amount of defending them by Jimmy should convince anyone any different. They know nothing about the game and they know less than nothing about finding talent with your eyes rather than your i-pads ().....FSG's biggest failing over the last few years has been their recruitment of staff even more than their recruitment of players: Jen Chang...nasty piece of work who is the antithesis of the sort of man who'd work at Anfield 20 years ago, Ian Ayre....worst negotiator since Waco, the coaching staff....most of whom have come and gone already, Rodgers....their man, they sacked Kenny after he got us to Wembley twice and yet they wanted something Kenny would never be....the number crunching "yes man".
Shouldn't that be: " How can they employ a manager if he is not resp..." ? Another reason to have got rid of Rodgers. Keeping Rodgers together with that committee is the most depressing outcome so far. A new manager would have given us new hope, new vision.
Jimmy on cue .. The committee isn't the problem - it's how it's being used. We have identified some quality players - Coutinho, Sturridge, Can, Sakho and we also have some brilliant and talented youngsters on the books - Manquillo, Moreno, Origi, Markovic. Our failings have been the players we signed for the first team i.e. Lallana, Lovren and Mario. I have my theory on who pushed for each of those but putting that aside, these were awful signings and it cost us dearly. But if we look at the overall failure, blaming transfers is just a small part IMO. The coaching has been worse which is why I stand my assertion that Rodgers was the biggest reason for the failure. Committees are at every club in some form or another. The difference is that either the manager has control or is given very little say. At LFC, everyone seems to have a say and that's the wrong way to do our business because there is conflict and no consistency in our policy.
FSG are " number crunchers", no doubt about it, but unless they're fattening the club up to sell on at a large profit in the not to distant future they need to understand that they can't run a football club(ours)the way they run the Red Sox. They not only have to crunch the numbers to make their asset and profits from it increase they have to go with the status quo in the premier league and mix it with solid investment in proven quality players and not just use a computer to see if a cheaper/less proven player will be a success in the future. As you say their numbers skills have saved the club and put us on an even keel since they purchased the club, but they seem to put to much emphasis on making partnership and sponsorship deals than looking at the big picture from a football perspective, its like buying a brand new top of the range Ferrari and not putting anti-freeze or engine oil in it and instead concentrating on putting fairy dice and and imitation fur car seat covers inside it. Keep the engine purring to perfection and keep it running to the quality the thing deserves no matter the cost. please log in to view this image
i thnk its more if the stat man and gordon get it compeltely wrong the check and balance of a real football mind saying are you nuts get the ****.. thats not there... rodgers swallowed that choice having been in the best position he could ever ever be in last summer. This summer looks actually worrying. rodger last summer shoudl have said ok i want my cb and AM but I want my striker before anything else. markoivc should not have occured AT ALL until a real striker arrived Same this year. we've both another AM in firmino who is good and bought an RB which i agree with too... and got milner and bogdan but if that means now we cn't get the striker for want for 5mil we are insane. the striker has to come first and if rodgers ends up with nowt again... well... he'll hang for it rightly.
I'm not sure what "fairy" dice are but I presume they are pink As for having to invest in players to increase the clubs ability to generate money, when you think about it they don't actually have to do they. We can slide a place or two every year and they are still raking in more and more tv money than when they took over. The new tv deals means there is rucks more money around even if you continue to float around 5th, 6th and 7th place. The problem here is not a lack of investment though is it really, you can't say we haven't been spending in the transfer market recently....we just haven't been spending well thanks to the structure and "brains" they have in place.
I agree We've spent a ****ing shed load. Fsg have not held back and it is building a blanc shhet in theory of in tangible assets. I bet some clown said balotelli can't lose money. Don't care after that... well I've ****ing news for them.
Only cos they are on the way up not already on the way down. 20 mil to 10 Mil v 16 Mil to maybe 8 Mil is still huge loss
Not in terms of ratio. Anyway can make a claim that a £45m investment will see us lose more money than a £16m waste.
True but put it into context as well - we played Lallana and Lovren to their strengths and they still failed. Now imagine playing to Mario's strengths and he will look half decent thus driving the price up.
But the price should be factored in - Mario 'only' cost £16m. The other two players were marquee signings and we will lose more money - maybe not as as percentage, but they will more than Mario if we assume we only get 50% of what we signed them for.
Mario was never going to work so it was £16m down the toilet. Lovren hasn't worked out, it was a risk. Lallana is a good squad player. both were expensive.
Point 1: The committee is very much the problem (that includes Rodgers). Rodgers was a big admirer of both Coutinho and Sturridge before they arrived at Anfield so you can't claim them for the committee but not for Rodgers can you? Sakho plays about as often as Agger used to so hardly worth a slap on the back and Can we can see how he develops but if you want to claim him as a "committee signing" then fair enough. As for brilliant youngsters....I've seen many of them in my years going the match but not one of those you mention gets even close to the "brilliant list" yet (far from it). Point 2: You can have your theories about who pushed for who but Mario and Lambo were hardly BR type signings (from an outsiders point of view I'd gamble on them being far removed from Rodgers first choices). The committee, which was foisted on Rodgers (rightly or wrongly), is supposed to work together so you can't seperate them whenever you feel a good/bad signing's been made. It's a load of ****e to put it politely. Point 3: The coaching was completely different under Kenny (a better standard IMO) and yet we still went out and bought Carroll, Downing and Adam....even the best coaches can't polish turds Jimmy. I do agree though that it's been one of Rodgers weakest spots...however FSG employed them all so the Buck stops with them (pun intended). Point 4: I totally agree I've never wanted a DoF at Anfield but now it seems a far more attractive option than either Rodgers having the only say or worse, Mike "Soccer Mom" Gordon picking from his Football Manager 2013 stat sheet.
