Roof was a Christian, though you are right that the killing were not religiously motivated. (I didnt say they were). He most certainly was a right wing nutjob tho i am afraid. He got his idealogy from a right wing website called the Council of Conservative citizens (an extremely racist right wing group)
Exactly so why exclude it then? yes its a massive outlier so it warps the stats but that shows the motivation of whoever claimed the headline stat.
The US is saying they're more afraid of American right wing extremists than Muslim extremists, so you could look at it like taking the focus away from Islam being this big, bad thing ordinary citizens should be afraid of.
the motivation is to show that in the last 15 years, right wing extremists have killed more people than islamic terrorists. Its just a fact. How far back is good enough for you then? Its being excluded because it would skew the figures in quite the opposite direction of the point being made, which is that the US has seen more homegrown terrorism than Islam terrorism in the last 15 years. Not sure what hard to understand there
exactly, because generally it isn't, Yeah they did 9/11....but it still doesn't change the fact that in the last 15 years, you are far more likely to get killed either by a US cop or a right winger than a jihadist.
exactly and the publisher s of the BIG headline didnt want you to think that hence its exclusion, either way lets have a look at the study and see how they got to that conclusion. Got **** to do, but post the stuff and I will have a look later.
And thats probably right, over there or over here you are very unlikely to be the victim of a islamic terrorist but the media pump the story to keep us terrified of islam, why? An why this headline?
Well of course But that still doesnt change the truth. It makes a good point. That in the US, some of their right wing, and especially their cops are out of control. I have seen video after video in the last year of Cops just shooting or killing unarmed people for no reason. The guy with a busted brake light who was shot 8 times in the back the kid listening to his ipod and didnt hear the cop tell him to freeze so got blasted 3 times in the chest the guy who was shot in the head whilst handcuffed and laying on his stomach the guy who was choked to death for supposedly selling duty free ***s. And those are just the killings. Several excessive and brutal force instances too, the McKinney pool, the guy on the subway with his 4 year old, the pregnant black lady outside of her kids school, the 12 year old girl body slammed on to a car by a cop..... They are out of control
Media controlled by people like Rupert Murdoch, I do not know what to call him right wing or left wing.
State sponsored terrorists I suppose, They raise terror, especially in the black and latino communities
People need to realise, there is always an enemy needed. Islam is that enemy now. Germany was done, up popped USSR, vietnam and Asia, South America, the war on drugs, middle east. Africa. Always a new enemy. The people who run the show will always give you an enemy and they get their power and profits. Divide and conquer. Death and destruction keeps us in our place and keeps the money flowing People are blind to the world they live in because they don't want to look and ridicule those that have figured it out, because that is how the system works. OK queue laughs and ridicule. That's how it is folks. The world you think you know is not how it is.
The key to ruling class power is always having an enemy. Why do you think Britain re-drew the borders in the middle east? So they all fought each other. Same in Africa. Same in Ireland. Re-draw the borders and you guarantee there will be an enemy. The US does the same, neither government is a government, they are a facade We are all being played for suckers so we keep afraid and we pay for the army and spying that watches us not the "enemy". How many years have we been without an "enemy"? Without a war?
I tend to agree with this. But I fear the original point of the thread has been lost somewhere on the first page... well as soon as a few extremists started attacking religion Btw Sisu, what you just said - have you ever seen a documentary called 'The Power of Nightmares'? Absolutely brilliant.
I've not seen it but I will look it up it's sort of related though, religion was created for the purpose of controlling people, by the same ruling classes. That's how "Gods" became one "god". They needed to do this because the populations grew too big for armies to control at such a granular level, religion served this purpose and also served to provide more enemies We all know, there is one law for the ruling class and another law for the rest of us, yet we seem oblivious to the obvious truth
Strongly recommend it. It's about 12/13 years old (about a couple of years after 9/11). I am sure you'll like it. Focuses a bit too much on the neo-cons but overall gives a good account of major conflicts in post-war history. The title as you'll guess shows how fear is used to facilitate public opinion.
