Manchester United’s Ryan Giggs: Swansea City face big task next season

Manchester United coach Ryan Giggs says Swansea City may face a tough task next season.

RYAN Giggs has warned Swansea City that there may be tough times ahead as they bid to repeat the heroics of last season.

And the Manchester United legend admits the Red Devils will be targeting Swansea next season as they bid to exact revenge for last year's double defeat to Garry Monk's side.

Giggs has been impressed by the strides Swansea have made under their former skipper.

But United's assistant boss reckons Swansea may struggle to progress again in 2015-16.

"It was a great season for Swansea, especially when you consider it was Garry Monk's first full year in charge," Giggs told the Evening Post.

"Not only that, but Swansea played exciting football and they are now really a well-established Premier League team — they are capable of beating anyone.

"It's early days in Garry's career, even he would say that.

"But he has had a really successful season and he will now look to build on that.

"That's always the challenge when you have had a good season — you have got to do it again and again.

Its not often i will agree with giggsy but i do on this...It is going to be tough ask for the team to better last season as like he says teams will be wary of us now and know they will have to up their game. As long as we are not in the bottom 3 i will be happy and if we make the top 10 i will be ecstatic....There is pressure on us like never before to do well but we wont get it all our own way.......A good start is needed...

If we finish 17th you will be happy?? Well I certainly wouldn't be.

It will be a fascinating season. A wave of optimism has the team trying to get maybe 6th place. 7th or 8th would be another good season and that is probably our natural ceiling in this league. 10th or lower will feel like a poor season, I suspect.

Giggs is a guy full of ****e, sorry but next season is not going to be more difficult than this one, or the one before. The fact that we beat Utd twice shows we have the character to beat them.

Next season if we lose twice to them that is six points only, just because they'll be targeting a win against us means nothing, we will be targeting wins against them again! Giggs can go shove his opinion up his arse

I think we are now in a position that anything other than a top 10 finish will feel like a failure after the season we have just had.

Oh come on Dai the pundits have been giving us our downfall since we've been up here, you only have to look at the motd or Lawro to see what they think of the swans.

Giggs for me is just a wife cheating moron who can't keep his gob shut, if we ever need a team talk for the game all Monk will have to show is this article.

Oh yeah and he was a player who showed utter contempt for Wales by pretending to be injured for many many games!

I have to agree with Dai on this . We have to be in the Premiere League for the 16-17 season first and foremost . If we have a season like the past season I would be one very happy bunny , but survival is the key to our future imo .

yes first and foremost is that we don't get relegated, next is to reach safety around the 40 point mark, next to take all cups whoever we play whether its chelsea or Newport seriously and field our best side, next if we are in the top 10 go for glory for a European spot and finally go for the win or a top 4......Can it be done ? of course we can.....Can we fail ? It's possible as monk has only had the one season and now everyone knows they have to play well to beat us. there is only a *** paper between winning and losing in most premiership games, so in my view this season will be harder....

Again Dai totally agree pal , in many ways I feel that this will be our defining season . I hope we are exciting, innovative and frighten the cr5p out of the opposition !

I still found last season to be the least enjoyable we've had in the PL though. There were too many games where we played rubbish for my liking.

Its points on the board that matters, I would rather us play ugly and grind out a win than play entertaining football that teams have the measure of us and lose that's for sure.....Monk has totally transformed our playing style that nobody could say what type of game we would play, With our new players im expecting more of the same and varying our formation according to who we are playing....I can see us playing 2 up front a number of times this season.

I hate to say it but have to agree with Dai, avoiding relegation is a success in itself and anything else is a bonus. This year with the massive increase in Sky money makes it even more important for us to remain in the league. People will say we are an established Pl side now and should push on, yes we are, but so were the likes of Bolton, Coventry, Wigan, Portsmouth, Forest and I am sure there are more and look what happened to them they all had a bad season and down they went. How you have performed the season before means nothing come the start of the next season everything is back level. So yes finishing 17th will be success in the greater scheme of things, for all that I do expect more from the squad we have.

It will be harder for us next season, much harder, possibly the hardest season we've had in the prem so far, including our first.

Before now we were happy just to be here, happy to play big clubs, happy to be on TV, we were still relative novices in the prem and played our games with little fear and with nothing to lose.

This changed last year as the youthful exuberance we played with evaporated and we matured, under Monk, becoming a different club entirely.

We are now a serious premier league football club and with doubles over Man Utd and Arsenal plus our general play and demeanour throughout the season now we are a recognised threat to any team we play.

We used to be the team that went excitedly into games hoping to gun down the big boys and steal point here and there but in our hearts we were just happy to be in the prem.

Next year though, we will be a very difficult fixture and we will be the ones targeted to be shot down. No one will take us lightly and Arsenal and Man Utd will be out for revenge too. Next season we will be taken seriously by ALL clubs, them below will be gunning for us, them above will be ready, prepared and eager to play us.

2015-2016 will be the most difficult season we've had in the prem imo, and irrespective of our signings, we'll have to step up another level just to reach in 8th place. We've grown out of the bylines and throw away quotes now, and into the headlines. Every team will play us harder than ever, our form means if they don't we can beat them.

Its business time, bring it on <ok>

We've not lost any major players (yet) but we've strengthened the squad. I hear what you say above, but I see no reason why we can't repeat last season's achievement. Teams should be scared to play us, not the other way round (you're not really suggesting that, but you get my drift). Avoid complacency and the season should be a good one ... touch wood.

It's not a novelty anymore where we were the underdogs and would be of no surprise if we were relegated. Today we have achieved what nobody could have predicted and graduated as a good established premiership side, with that comes pressure because we are no longer considered relegation candidates and if we become complacent when we play teams we should be beating then we could find us in big trouble. Every big side we have beaten showed us no respect as they thought we were 3 points in the bag and we had nothing to lose.....well them days are gone after last season and the big teams will never take us lightly ever again and the other teams will see us as a good team and will up their effort to take points off us,,,,,,This is why i say that this will be a massive season for us because if we do well and finish in the top half then we will definitely know we have arrived and can compete with anyone including European clubs.....It is going to be a make or break season i can feel it.....

If we continue to have a team that play as a United squad with no perma donnas then their confidence will continue with the added skills brought in we may at last be getting the strength in depth to hit every team and cup game at 100 mph that comes our way. Safety first then let the pretty stuff flow.

I think you've hit the nail on the head Aswan when you say "Teams should be scared to play us". I think they will too but this means that teams will play us harder and make it more difficult for us, particularly top ten teams.

I'd love it to happen but I don't see doubles over Arsenal or Utd next season either but I think we can make points up by not throwing them away as we did quite regularly in the first half of last season.

I got a funny feeling too that Gomis will be our salvation next season, with Monterro his main provider. Jeff was great last year but now with a year under his belt I expect him to be even better, injurys' permitting.

We will struggle when we get complacent or take our status as a premier league side for granted. This is one reason why I wanted to see one of the big rumoured signings come off.

Not sure Eder will be good enough, but will be happy to be proved wrong.

We've strengthened our squad and should have another good season - but we may well finish with less points that last year!

We picked up 12 points against Man U and Arsenal last season - I doubt if that will happen again. Realistically, if we drew with both of them at home and lost away, we would probably regard that as 2 points gained in a normal season. Based on that, if we break 50 points I think we will have done extremely well - as long as we win the FA Cup <laugh>
