I can't get passed how stupid the players look....who can take someone seriously when they are dressed up as if they are going on a moon landing. Those women who insisted on all that protection have a lot to answer for....especially as it defeats the object as players are more aggressive when protected. Ice hockey is another example and the increase in bouncers in cricket now everyone wears helmets.
Seems there's a lot of mixed opinion on Clyne - do you think he is future England #1 material? does he still show a lot of potential to fulfill or is he maxed out? Hoping we haven't bought another Lovren.
No chance. He's nowhere near as tall as Joe Hart and Fraser Forster. I have heard he's quite good in a 5-a-side goal though
Ps. Sir Red, I think he is very good. I think he is England's best RB currently. Brenda needs to get him to the byline more.
A lot of the opinion is probably coloured by the second half of last season where he was below average, didn't help that our other right backs were either 18 or centre backs. Some fans were turned off particularly because of his contract and it was obvious he could leave. Compared to the season before when him and Calum Chambers were about equal - both of them were much better than they have been in 2014-15 and those two + Shaw were our biggest strength. But IMO the best we got from him was the first season back in the Prem, where nothing went right up to January. Clyne and Puncheon decided to be Cafu and Ronaldo, Lambert went a bit Alan Shearer and we started not losing (even though we really deserved to). England? Well he's not automatic choice yet, but none of the rest are exactly Gary Nevilles. If he wants 30 caps he'll have to be consistently better than Chambers and...Phil Jones? Maybe it's overly simplistic, but Clyne is more threatening on the wing, and I'd give him the advantage over Chambers for that one. But I am making the mistake of applying actual logic to England teams here.
Great defender, and when he gets caught out of position, he has the pace to get back and recover. His crossing is dreadful though in the main.
Les Reed's statement: “With Nathaniel’s contract entering its final year, it was important that his future was resolved this summer. “With Cédric Soares now in place and it becoming clear that Nathaniel did not wish to extend his deal, we were keen to swiftly move on early in our pre-season schedule. “We have now been able to conclude our negotiations with Liverpool, and we thank Nathaniel for his efforts during the past three seasons.”
Is it me or does that shirt look way too big for him. Bye Clyne, thanks for the three years, would have been nice not to go to Liverpool though.
Courtesy of LFC.com... You were away in America during the break and we believe you saw a little bit of Adam Lallana while you were over there. Did you ask him about Liverpool? "We spoke a lot. He said he wanted me to sign and I said if the deal moves along and gets done, I'd be with him as a teammate once again. We enjoyed our time over there in America - it was brilliant."
I dislike Adam even more now (which is probably a bit hypocritical given Fonte bent Cedric's ear). Good luck Nathan - you handled things pretty well over the contracts so no hard feelings here as we've already moved on. Just hope they change the Liverpool manager sooner rather than later otherwise you're screwed.
Dear Nat, Thanks for a good, solid 3 seasons with us. You developed nicely and formed a crucial part of the world's most underrated defence last year. I would also congratulate you on what can only be described as a hugely progressive move; joining a club which not only finished a long way ahead of Saints last year but has also shown shrewdness in dealing with the arrival of new players matched only by the sort of career progression offered by Mike Ashley's Newcastle side. I sincerely hope you follow the likes of Lallana, Lambert and Lovren to achieving greatness at this institution of a football club whose forward thinking attitude and lack of obsession with the past is truly refreshing. May you show as much development for Liverpool as your left foot has at Southampton for the last 3 seasons. I hope you're as able a replacement for the great Glen Johnson as Fabio Borini has been for King Kenny and Allen will be for Gerrard. Enjoy bathing in a pool of delusion and mediocrity. SJ
