We'll have to disagree here TJ. The french league is nowhere near as physical as ours! I watch a lot of French football, it is sedate and they barely make contact. Mind I don't think we're miles apart as I include the closing down and pace of the game as part of the physical challenge. Undoubtedly the league here has lost some of its physicality in terms of kicks but you only have to listen to the likes of Cabaye and their comments on how tough they find the physical aspect. More so the pace and amount of running than the roughness. Even the roughness is a hell of a lot more common too. Aside from that St Etienne vs PSG game I watched last season, that was a terrific watch. They kicked 7 bells out of each other and that Galtier was just egging his players on. The weather here is tough too. Its ****ing cold.

The pace, closing down is undoubtedly the big factor. That is a difficult task for a lot to adapt to. Even Ronaldo improved massively at your lot with time. That was part coaching of course in learning how to release the ball, but he also got a lot stronger and learnt to use his body.

The key is the last bit. Can he man up? We had a little peruvian who was 2 stone wet through, who looked a lost little lamb for 18 months. He was awful for the first 8-12 months. Not bad, but ****ing awful. He never pissed and moaned though, never wanted to **** off home, he just got his head down and eventually became one of the best 2.5m we ever spent. Solano was less physically suited to the league than Cabella, it all comes down to your mental capacity to dig in. Ronaldo took loads of **** for his diving, greediness etc, he still does. However the knacker has a rock solid mentality. He was is one driven bastard.

I don't know really, I like Cabella's talent. It will all depend if the toys are in the pram.

He's like Ben Arfa mark II... If Ben Arfa had a lot less talent, was much much worse at every technical aspect of the game, was slower, much weaker, and contributed **** all in his time at Newcastle....

Cabella going would be another crap player off the books.

Far too early to give up on Cabella. He still has a lot to do to prove himself but it would be crazy to give him his season of adjustment to the English game and then give up on him before potentially reaping the benefits.

I thought we paid over 10 mio £ for Cabella, that article quotes 7.1 mio, that's not so bad after all.

Of course it's too soon to judge him, but if he wants to leave, he can leave for all I care. At this stage, his loss wouldn't be felt.

But his crossing is ****e, he's weak as **** and he couldn't score if the net was the size of Hadrian's wall and the goalie had gone for a coffee.... how is he going to overcome all that? Jonas took about 5 seasons to lift his crosses off the floor, and to be honest I had more patience for him because at least he was good at dribbling.

He was all of those things for us, but we know that he can do it because he's done it before. We saw glimpses of it last season but nowhere near enough. All fo those things are affected by confidence - which he clearly had none of for large parts of last season.

Good post mate, we don't necessarily disagree on everything.

I'm more inclined to believe he would thrive in this league under a better set up. For example, Cabella's replacement, Kevin Sansom, he'd walk into Swansea's first team and Ji wouldn't get a look in. Put him in the West Ham side and he'd go missing, or the Spurs side, he'd need their side to go through him, not just to be plonked in as a number. Same applies with Cabella's for me, he was more than capable of dealing with what I believe (we do disagree here) is a physical league in terms of player strength, maybe less physically demanding I can concede that, did he look unfit to you?

Either way I hope he stays with you, SM should get him ticking over and that's when he'll pay dividends.

If he does want to move back to France, can you really blame him?
Judging by some of the views on here, it's a case of '**** Off Son' you're ****e and we don't need you.

Another one that probably won't get a proper chance under a decent coach.
But don't worry though, we can let him go and in a few months, bitch on about a non-existent or crap replacement.

I'd be gutted if he wants out. No great first season, but shown enough glimpses to see he can be a right handful. Keep him for at least another year.

Would like to keep him at least until we have some idea of who might be coming in. He was hit and miss last season, more miss than hit but it could have been the first season effect. Cant see any point in getting rid now as his value will surely be less after last season and he is not going to go down in value again - he is on a 6 year contract. If he wants to go tell him he is definitely not going out on loan and we will only sell him if we get our money back. If he has clearly lost interest from performances up to Christmas let him go in January.

He deserves a chance to shine.

He deserves a chance under a proper man manager, a good stern english manager who will likely see his rightful position as a CAM.

He should do some bulking during the summer.

So you'd pick him above SDJ? Not for me.

I think he should be played right side of an attacking three behind a main striker. I think William plays there for Chelsea, as an example? Needs a lot of coaching, but the typical "inside right" as they used to call 'em is where he'd be best.

Besides which, we have no other attacking right midfielder, so it's what I call the Charnley Effect - "hmmm, looks like I might have to spend money on a right winger.....hang on a mo'......if I just get my rubber.....<squeak><squeak><squeak>....then I write Cabella in PURPLE on the RIGHT side of my sheet of paper......BINGO! I've solved our right wing problem. Now I just write Obertan in brown underneath, and the squad is complete. Time for a biscuit."

As does Haidara needs lots of coaching, oh and Cabella's first touch is poor as well!

They're currently not on the same level. Although Cabella's pretty poor, he contributed. Cabella can trap a ball, for example.
