The Board are giving Rodgers what he wants - they're certainly backing their man, which is to their credit.

Can only see it ending one way though.

I'll freely admit I hadn't heard of him, and I'm feeling underwhelmed. His record seems ok, not amazing, and all lower leagues. I'll give him a chance before crucifying him though.

His appointment has the look of Rodgers all over it. Not sure if it's a big statement of "I'll bring in who I want to work with, regardless of what people say." or "I'm not strong enough to have a high-profile number two." Both are plausible, even at the same time. If the season does start badly, this decision will likely be pounced upon by fans and media (and Jimmy <whistle>).

Fair enough. All the signs pointed to it anyway (interpret that as you like).

Not the end of the world is it lads.

If it all goes tits up early on there is no one to hide behind and that'll be the end of Rodgers.

Hopefully it won't come to that as on paper our team isn't looking too bad and BR is a good coach, we shall see.

That video - a classic case of looking [desperately] for the positives! As others have said we have to give him a chance, we don't have any option on that anyway but to say 'underwhelming' is an understatement.

"Some had hoped for a nod to the club’s glorious past with cherished names such as Pako Ayesteran, Jamie Carragher, Sami Hyypia and Robbie Fowler mentioned as possible contenders."

    from echo

pako wants to be a mian man. doubt was approached. would not do it.

Carragher.. whats he done... **** all. has he got his badges. playing doesn't qualify to be assistant manager

hyppia... again qualified but failed at brighton. o'driscoll has ot to championship and stuck in but had a bad time too

Fowler.. still getting qualified.. whats he done, nobody wants to take him on around the leagues.. work at lower academy level and prove yourself robbie.

where's the options like mullenstein.. an ex manc would be favored over rodgers choice. that says its no faith in rodgers rather than him.

I'm guessing you whinging ****ers wanted a 'name'

I'm pretty sure the club didn't just randomly pick his name out of a hat, so lets see what he's all about before signing the poor ****ers P45.

He's obviously someone Rodgers likes and respects and who he thinks would be good for the job, so if we're keeping Rodgers (as it would fully appear), then we have to give him a chance.

Unfortunately, you can also say the same for several players, who haven't worked out...

I put a lot of store in the feel good factor, this just hasn't got it. Remember when RM went to Everton they were underwhelmed, proved wrong after first season, now proved right? All appointments are risks, is this just the latest 'potential' signing that we're getting used to?

57 is quite old for a "potential" signing.

I'm quite underwhelmed too to be honest - just thought I'd throw the cat amongst the pigeons :bandit:

Dalglish was a feel-good signing, Rodgers probably wasn't. Kenny won us the league cup, but failed to improve us in the league. Rodgers almost won the league, but has since regressed, and has failed to win anything.

Not sure what point I'm making here, but there you go.

At least @Gerrez will be chuffed that we've got an ex-Notts Forest manager on board.

Not as a coach - we're going to see if 'potentially' he has what it takes to make it at top level .

At least Pascoe has a nice smiley face, this fella's miserable as sin - but I'm sure he's very nice and good at what he does ....

I get what you're saying. Kenny came when we needed a feel good appointment and it worked - we felt great and allowed ourselves a bit of hope after the misery. We need another feel good coaching appointment. Let's face it whether it's feel good or not, the outcome will be the same so why not go along the journey feeling good rather than the opposite <laugh>
