The moral teachings in general in religion are good ones, but we should be able to be civilised, good human beings without the need for a religion to push us into those decisions. For example I'm not religious but I agree with not killing people, or stealing from them etc... I know some people need religion to help them make the right decisions, I just think we will move beyond it as a species over time.
Indeed, if you need the idea of a big magical father figure up in the clouds saying "if you rape that woman you will burn in hell" in order to not rape women, then I, as I have already said, I would question that persons sanity and moral centre. I can understand the need for religion hundred's of years ago when the powerful had to placate the poor masses, people had no idea how or why anything happened, why the sun rose, what snow and rain were etc Now we know how and why all this happens, so there really is no need to religion. I understand that an institution like the Catholic church isn't just going to go away, but we are slowly fazing them out. **** the Pope was probably the most powerful person in the world 600 years ago, now he is just a doddery old **** in a stupid hat and an even stupider car. Still though, quite like this current Pope, far more progressive and less *****ey than most previous ones. (Oh yeah and lets not forget that the Catholic Church started in the first place as the worlds first ,largest and most successful *****phile ring, we bum your child and you pay us to do it )
If you have one hundred eggs, some of them may not be consumable for one reason or another. There are bad Priests and can tell you that there very good priests too. My friend lived with a Priest for many years and it was because of this he had education. He was never abused.
No, not all modern day Priest are *****philes, thats not what i am saying. What I am saying is that I, and many others, believe that was the initial purpose of the church when it was started, to earn money, placate the masses and indulge their darker sexual urges with impunity.
Evil men have hi-jacked religion to achieve their personal ambitions. A friend sent me a footage via WhatsApps about year ago the so called pastor asked his congregation to go and eat grass is South Africa.
Jews don't eat shellfish because the shellfish eat the muck in the sea and are considered 'unclean' ..... or something like that.
I though atheists were easy going, religion's not for me, chilled individuals. The various discussions we've had on here over the years have proved them to be very aggressive in their views. I've never seen a single post from the very few who are religious belittling the unbelievers - not one - but the vehemence from atheists has been prolific.
I know in the past I've briefly posted on here on a debate about religion and definitely felt belittled by at least one religious poster. Though I haven't had much experience on this board in regards to religious discussion so I have no idea what the general attitude is amongst the posters!
Atheist do not believe in the existence of God. Human existence can only be explained by Biology. Adam and Eve had sexual intercourse and had Kane and Abel. Kane killed Abel because of jealousy only Kane left. Where does Kane got his wife? Skeptics of the Bible have used Cain’s wife time and again to discredit the book of Genesis as a true historical record. Sadly, most Christians have not given an adequate answer to this question.
I also think often people who are atheist have come to that conclusion through logical thinking, a very non-emotion based line of thought and find it frustrating when arguments are put to them which aren't based on what they see as evidence or logical reasoning. People who are religious and those who are atheist come from very different perceptions of the world and that frustration at not getting across ones perception sometimes comes across as aggressive.
Thats an Agnostic. They are not sure one way or another. Atheists do not believe in the existence of God and believe that even if he did exist, he is, like MITO, a **** who deserves no respect, worship or any of my time. Personally I actively seek the destruction of all organised religion on the planet, as I believe it is a burden to the advancement of the human race. We will never explore the stars if we are grounded in our medievel beliefs. Most of my friends are Agnostics, I have a couple of Christian friends, about a half dozen Muslim friends, plus my brother who was converted to Christianity by his first wife. (She was one of the loveliest people you could ever meet too ) I don't seek to hurt people, and believe they are free to believe what they wish. And I will not irrationally hate a person based on their religion. Its their religion I hate not them. Doesn't mean I am not going to try to help the planet though.
