Smashing a volley in from 25 yards and a a 25 yarder into the top corner are hardly strikers goals

FF just because we have different opinions doesnt make yours right or that I have a "lack of logic". Get your head out your arse and realise Nigel Pearson doesnt rate Schlupp too highly as a striker either

Now feel free to state your opinions but dont attack mine.

<laugh> ... I've never claimed to be 'right' <laugh> ... and forgive me for forgetting (temporarily) that you are part of Nigel Pearson's inner sanctum - perhaps you can confirm just when he confided to you that he doesn't rate Schlupp as a striker? ... and as for 'attacking your opinion' <laugh> I have merely questioned the basis (and yes perhaps logic) for it <laugh> ...

... which leads me inexorably to <laugh> .... a strike (or volley) from 25 yards cannot, by definition, be a strikers goal? ... seriously? ... at this point I'm not questioning your logic at all ... instead I'm wondering if the Clangers and the Soup Dragon are close neighbours on your planet?

Personally, I think he could become a good goal-scoring winger, similar to how Lloyd Dyer was for us. His best position is probably wing-back but I don't want to play that system all the time, and Jeff as a winger in a conventional 4-4-2, with Fuchs behind, could be really exciting.

Well I'm going to throw an additional spanner in the works and say Schlupp is not currently (or at least wasn't last season) good enough defensively to play at fullback in a back four, which we saw in a couple of games towards then latter part of the season. He's a problematic player because his finishing is not great and he's vulnerable defensively, yet his work ethic and pace make him one of the first names on the team sheet. That role last season in the back five was perfect for him though as there was plenty of cover for him (usually Morgan sweeping up) and he wasn't expected to get 10-12 goals either - so I do expect us to continue with that formation and I expect Fuchs and Schlupp will be in direct competition.

Having said that, the above is of course a summary of where he currently is, and it is amazing how a summer can change a player (Vardy anyone?) - especially at 22. So perhaps the Schlupp we see next season will defend like Gary Neville and attack like Roberto Carlos - and then he may end up at Arsenal after all!

I'm with Proud on this one.

Any player (with perhaps exception of the GK) can score an absolute blinder from 25 yards, when they have little time to think about it.
Danny Rose against Arsenal, Roberto Carlos was famous for his long-range shooting... Cahill has scored a screamer or two from CB, Phillip Lahm, I could go on...

Doesn't mean they should play up front!

A screamer from distance does not make a strikers goal.

If it were Schlupp racing through against Man Utd, at 3-3, would he have slotted the ball in the bottom corner as Vardy did?

My money is certainly sitting in row Z <laugh>
[An extreme example, he wouldn't have missed by that much, but I certainly would not have put any money on him scoring!]

... happy for you to be with Proud ... you are quite entitled to ... and I've no problem to anybody having a differing opinion to mine whatsoever ...

... indeed I've now written to my mates, Lionel, Christiano, Wayne and Alexis to request that they stop taking free-kicks from distance <laugh> as it is in danger of contravenng a striker's role ...... I've also mentioned to Alexis that, as a striker, he should certainly not have attempted that speculative punt in the cup final ... he should only shoot when in the penalty area ...

... more seriously; I do take your point that Jeff Schlupp has shown a lack of composure in front of goal at times this season just gone ... BUT .... according to the club (not me) he has been a prolific goalscorer at all levels through our youth ranks ... now as far as I am aware they don't have bigger goals ... so I suspect he would have had to have both confidence and composure in front of goal to acheive such status ... and that is really my point.

He is only 22 and could be anything ... and for me it's far too early to say that he definitely couldn't make it as a striker ... because he certainly did make it as one through the different levels he has played at to date ...

... and as for going through on goal ... Vardy has also missed a few in such situations ... and as for Nugent ... well probably not worth going there .. but your row Z analogy is apposite <laugh>

Unlike Proud I won't be asserting what Nigel Pearson thinks ... because I don't know ... did Pearson start to play Schlupp on the left side because a) he has definitely concluded that Jeff is, at best, only a League 1 striker or b) because the left hand side was a definite (and often exposed) weakness that needed fixing as a priority and actually we had adequate striking options already if only we were not conceding etc?

... for me it's more likely to have been b) ... and really that is all I'm saying. Agree or disagree ... no worries.

Had a quick look on the club's website to see if they have any record of his goalscoring exploits at the youth levels ... couldn't find anything ... but this bit is interesting ... he'still being described on the website as a 'striker' No 15 ...

    .. and to quote ...

"A powerfully-built striker or defender blessed with a remarkable turn of pace, Jeff joined the Academy as an 11-year-old and excelled at every level of the Club’s youth setup"
    Read more at http://www.lcfc.com/team/player-profile/jeff-schlupp/15#kjvDevzgd6VDrlMR.99

... to the best of my knowledge he has always played as a striker in his journey through that youth set-up ...

Schlupp has almost the exact same history as Patrice Evra - both are youth strikers that became left sided wingers in the senior team and finally left backs - in fact Schlupp only stated playing left back after his Man Utd trial so there a a good chance that he was influenced by Evra there.

Here's to him finding the same success <cheers>

I think Sven may actually have got him playing left back, I seem to remember him playing there in the pre-season a few years back before he made his debut against Rotherham.

You are quite correct... a debut where he played as striker and became the first city debutant since the 1940' to bag a hat-trick...suspect you knew that was coming! :)

I would have thought If we could have got money for Jeff "I am about to shoot. Where's the panic button" Schlupp I think we should have taken it.
I just waiting to see if Matty "give the ball away" James is offered a longer contract.

The up side of Pearson leaving is these 2 might not be automatic picks.

He is far from Premiership standard IMHO. I hope he make a Vardy like improvement then he might be worth a place.
He scooped the awards like he scooped most of his shots into the stand.

Moulton you bad boy. You will have Carmine berating you for your comments about our beloved Matty. I personally really appreciate him as a player and do hope he signs a much longer term contract.

I must watch a different team to Moulton <laugh> ... thought James and particularly Schlupp grew into real premiership quality playrs during the season ... contrast with Drinky for instance who faded out of starting contention with a whimper ... shame about MJ's injury - that will be a set back ... as for Schlupp ... no more exciting wing back in the country for me at the moment ... just loveed seeing him leaving so called speedsters like Nathaniel Clyne struggling in his wake ... again all IMHO.
