Top Gear was hilarious. They better get signed up to another broadcaster. The race with the caravans and Clarkson's arrival with half a car at that posh dinner made me cry with laughter.
It wasn't so bad last time they did Glasto a few years ago, but he's just about lost it completely now. Such a shame, I'm glad I saw them then.
Q: What is immoral.? A: The fact that you have a child. In this overcrowded world it is perhaps immoral to have children. Certainly to have them with no thought to a very uncertain future, but only to serve the happiness of the parents in the short term. It's a strong instinct to overcome, but as a world population, we're going to have to curb our desire to keep reproducing more than 2, or else. With answers like that I think the bot might cope with the Turing test.
Last time I saw The Who live they were so under rehearsed it was embarrassing. Then again I've always tended to prefer bands on record and just have a great hi-fi system capable of undistorted high volumes. The only one I found who completely bucked that trend was Rory Gallagher. He was good on record, but immense live.
Just watched Obama meeting Attenborough on BBC1. David was 89 a couple of months back and Barack Obama wanted to meet his TV hero. Obama was typically relaxed, but definitely picked his words carefully, whereas Attenborough was like a caged animal trying to get a lifetime's information out of his head and into Obama's. The end result wasn't spectacular or profound. Perhaps it was a missed opportunity even. But it happened and I was glad to see that Obama knows that, environmentally worldwide, we are more than in a spot of bother.
Live every time for me. Obviously I love a well-produced studio album, what ageing prog-rocker wouldn't? But there's something about the uniqueness of the live performance which can't be topped.
An interesting merger between Franz Ferdinand and Sparks going on right now. Ron Mael is as scary as ever, while I'm pleased to say his brother Russell can still sing very well.
I'm afraid I can't forgive the playing gaffs or the spells where the musicians go off and indulge in something that they think was better than they put on the album. Bowie was pretty good, but not as good as his albums. Yes were pretty good, but same again. Moody Blues were memorable but still not as good. Everybody else were way worse. I understand people get into the experience. I'd rather listen to the music that I want to, when I want to and at what volume. I think Yes single-handedly gave me tinnitus. In truth, that was my fault as I expected a responsible attitude to volume levels for two hours.
Also watched the programme about Arthur Ashe on iPlayer today. I remember him playing Connors at Wimbledon, and I wanted Jimmy to win because he was a feisty trier and winner. But by the end of the match Arthur Ashe had won me over. I don't suppose anyone else watched it over the last week. Too busy watching sport, no doubt. . EDIT: Thought not.
Wimbledon opening day then, and the order of play means I get to see: Djokovic v Kohlschreiber; Sharapova v Konta (British hopeful); and Wawrinka v Sousa. I'm hoping for a good day of tennis, as it usually is, but it will be weird just driving up into one of the pre booked car parks, rather than having to queue for 5 hours just to get a ground ticket. Weather looks good, not that it matters now with the roof.
Very un-British to show off like that. Playing Sharapova, Konta will need to be hopeful. Have a great day, AL.
Fugees .......... shudder. Awful version ......... I suppose, oh fount of musical wisdom, you know the artist about whom it was supposed to have been written?
Yay!! A fellow Rory fan. He was absolutely amazing. Had the pleasure of seeing him every time he came to Southampton back in the 70s and was blown away every time by the sheer effort he put in. 20 years ago he left the world of music a sadder place ..........
