Significant Move worth sticking in the alerts with a note saying 'wait till they stick a professional jockey on board and back the pants off it'. I think a little idleness cost it the race then.
FFS, awful positioning from Ryan Moore throughout there The right 2 fillies fighting it out at the finish though, should be collecting there but that's racing!
The Oaks form clearly not as bad as some thought vis a vis the older generation. Good performance from the winner considering she missed the break and had to be ridden to assume the lead. Good run from the Guineas winner as well in second but surprisingly she seemed to get outpaced when the pace quickened.Strange since she just didn't seem to last the Oaks trip or maybe she was just mugged. 11f filly maybe!
Needs some stoking up does Leggy, Dexter, I think the trips perfect for her. Her and Found in the Nassau would be tasty. When I back Moore, I always end up on his dud rides!
Lovely performance from Ribbons there too- giving 12lb to the younger generation. Has Group1 form in France last year with We Are and I'd be interested in her on Champions Day in the likely soft conditions if there's a fillies and mares event.
Come on Beefy surely it was just a matter of the best horse won on the day? it's very easy to blame the jockey when you lose, we've all done it at some point. When he wins Moore is best thing since sliced bread and heralded as the messiah on here but when he's on a horse that gets beat it's always his ride at fault nowt to do with the horse just seems a bit unfair
Agree, I was about to post Ribbons is one to take from the race, very pleasing effort indeed. Looked a very good renewal beforehand.
She was finishing well Beefy. They might save Found for the Nassau or even Words although she may need more experience before reaching for the top table and Goodwood would hardly be her track judging on her two runs thus far. Also interesting to see where Fluff is targeted. Re todays second,I think she needs a break having had 5 runs already this year. Interesting to see what Coolmore throw at the Falmouth (awful G1) and the Matron with Found stepping up in trip.
As I aticipated Legatissimo was no good thing today, there where far to many good fillies in that race to see it that way. I think the best fillie won, she lost abit of ground at the start, yet showed real guts to cling on. Legatissimo got caught a little flat footed when they initially quickened and that's what cost her the race. Must be frustrating for connections to lose 2 G1s back to back in a photo, but that's racing
When he's beat in a photo you're down to margins though and good/bad rides can be the difference. He never looked in a great posy to me and you could see he was panicking approaching the bend as he knew was position or two too far back. The fact she's half a length past the winner yards after the line backs up she should have won. He's got the best horse beaten. Twice I've had Leggy nutted on the line so I've paid my money for a dam good rant
The fact that neither the Newmarket 1000 Guineas winner nor the Irish 1000 Guineas winner was successful in a Group 1 race containing only one Group 1 older filly (Ribbons) tells me that this year’s Classic generation fillies are a moderate bunch. As we reach July, weight for age starts to favour the three-year-olds. On Champions’ Day there is the twelve furlong Fillies & Mares race but I would expect the ten furlong Prix de l’Opera on Arc day (like last year) is more likely for Ribbons.
Obviously I'd agree that it matters whether it's a good or bad ride but if that had been any jockey other than Ryan Moore on today nothing would have been said about the ride it would have been about the horse not been good enough
I'd be staggered if Ribbons ever reversed the form with first two who are still on the upgrade despite a cracking effort today. I'm never keen on supposed G1 flat horses who can't perform,or are sub standard,on decent ground never mind proper flat racing ground. Does anyone remember the abbreviation "hd" on a horses CV,denoting it had won on hard ground!
I'd disagree with that, if I'm beat in a photo with a horse ahead a stride after the line I'd have been pretty unhappy with any jockey on! It seems Moore is above criticism at times!
I think you are doing Ribbons a bit of an injustice. Softer ground (which she much prefers) in Paris at the beginning of October and having to give less weight to the younger generation, I can see her reversing form.
The Irish 1000 winner ran well below par and wouldn't have ran if Bolger had a say and still owned her. But when you lie with dogs.....
Only stating what is known..she prefers slow ground because it blunts the speed of the opposition. Weight for age is a leveller and whilst it does provoke debate it is that and nothing more. Slow ground suits horses that are slower than others...another leveller.
