Majorcans pronounce 'll' as a 'y', so Mallorca is Mayorca. And where I stayed Pollensa is pronounced Poyensa.

    And there endeth the lesson.

I was trying to find a quote that Churchill made about disliking the use of foreign names instead of our English versions of the same place....couldn't find it, but ending up reading a selection of his quotes. You could spend all day reading those, so dragged myself away.

Sorry...nothing as annoying as getting a lecture from someone who learnt something 5 mins ago. :)

Emptying my fridge...just eaten jelly, rice pudding and strawberries. Delicious. Not so sure about broccoli, baked beans and (I think) a tomato combo that I plan for tea.

Talking of fridge's - ive just spent a couple of hours pulling mine out from its alcove, cleaning behind it and giving it a good spring clean in general. Now enjoying a lovely cup of Twinings Breakfast Tea.

Just finished catching up on No Offence. Anyone else watch it. Not supposed to be totally realistic, but mixed grisly humour with a whodunit. Looking forward to series two. Let's hope no one tries that death by expanding foam!

Yes, I read about it last night. The author was asking Dave Crosby about her condition. Two of my favourite singer-songwriters there. Our heros will eventually go, as will we. [sorry to get all maudlin and profound].

Its one of those jobs ive been putting off for ages and boy did it need doing ! Its is quite important to do now and again as the grid on back of the fridge is an air-cooled condenser and when it gets badly coated with dust and debris it loses its efficiency and increases the operating pressure of the compressor, to the point where fridge will stop working in worst case scenario. Mine hadnt been touched for something like 8 years so really needed doing ! Sorry about the lecture on fridges - im sure yours is fine Fran ! :emoticon-0100-smile

I loved The Road, but it was hard, in the sense that you had to work your imagination pretty much all the time as both the dialogue and the descriptive narrative were were so pared down and sparse.
Suttree is really good too and although it's very different from The Road, I enjoyed it just as much.

Stephen donaldson's The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant is my all-time favourite series of books. 6 big ones and a little one by the time you finish.vast in scope and time, very Tolkienesque really.
I also like A big boy did it and ran away by Chris Brookmyre. He writes clever crime novels with a wicked sense of humour and irony
Anything by Tim Powers would be next, probably On Stranger Tides. They nicked the title and a few basic ideas for that Pirates of the Caribbean movie, but the novel is vastly superior.

RIP Chris Squire. A magnificent bass guitarist and innovator. Sad.
