Special mention to Richards who was quality - RIP, Richard Hall could've been an England CB but for injury, Claus was Mr Dependable and Jaidi was a mountain!
Neil Ruddock was always a favourite of mine as a kid, but that was probably more down to his personality
Might be an unpopular one by the way he fu**ed off last season, but I honestly thought when Lovren played for us he was immense.
He faded a bit towards the end of the season, though I'm not sure whether it was because his mind was elsewhere or it was just the end of a hard first season in the PL. Should have stayed here....and I hope I end up saying that about most players who leave. Don't get too big for your boots...it can come back and bite you.
Ok, the result of this poll is pretty clearcut, but i'm struggling to compile a list for the next category (Right Midfield/Winger) and I didn't want to post a new thread, so i'd like some suggestions as to who should be on the list. I already have the obvious ones, like Terry Paine, Danny Wallace and Jay Rodriguez but who else should be considered?
As I stated in the Right Back thread, Fonte and Svennson will win this poll. I guess the average age of this forum is about 30. Edit: although Toby is probably the best cb of recent times, one season isn't long enough for him to get my vote.
Channon and Keegan have as good a shout as any for the striker slots (though I'm guessing Rickie will get one of them).
This is why it is an age related thing. Keegan was the best player in Europe (officially) and he came to play two seasons for us and lived up to that billing. Anyone too young to see him will not appreciate that it even know how good he was, or Channon, or Chivers, or Ron, etc, etc. In fact the generation that have been watching for ten years, haven't really he a lot to pick from.
You only need one name for that: Chicken George Lawrence *did I miss out 'headless' in there somewhere? He got Fergie a job
I do look back fondly on the Maskell, Dowie, Shipperley days. Mainly because it was when I was able to go to pretty much all the games (living in Soton at the time too), plus had the utter enthusiasm of youth (bordering on obsession!) We were a little bit rubbish though (apart from Tiss).
